Prelock 686. Good luck. I hunted over a year before finding mine. 4" don't go up for sale often and I am behind the tofu curtain.

If it really came down to the three guns you listed I'd have to see their condition in person to really make the call.

As for "other..." I'm a little surprised that nobody has mentioned the current non-PC production 627-5; I've got one and I ******* LOVE IT. (I also own a number of earlier Model 27's...)

It's an 8-shot revolver with a heavy (non-tapered) barrel and the beefed up ejector shroud/lug. Round butt gives you lots of grip otions.

I thought they had dropped that model for the "new" barrel design???

I'd get a 586, a 686, a 27-2 or 3 or a 28-2 or 3 or a Python or an older Trooper - not the Mk III..

Come to think of it, I bought the 586 and I have a 5" 627-1.

After my own research, this website included, my choices are:

27-2 / 28-2
586
19-3

In fact, over the last two weeks, I have acquired the 28-2(4") and the 586(6"). Now, for a 19-3(2.5"). You can say that I am in the middle of
my S&W .357 fever. No foreseeable cure...

No question here - none of the above! Hey, there was but one S&W choice - and you're in 'S&W-land', what could you expect.

The best bargain in a 4" .357M was the 620 - a 7-shot L-frame partial lug replacement for that 4" 66-7. Sadly, it was hard to find three years ago - when I saw the 4" 627 Pro... and made it mine. It's still available - and an even better bargain, considering it's features.

Also shown is last year's re-intro of the 2 5/8" PC627 UDR - a great deal if you want a shorter barrel. Both will take moonclips - even come with a few. The '5starfirearms.com' machined speedloaders & baseplates are great, too. Both sport aftermarket grips - and the spring-loaded front sight on the 4" 627 Pro has a HiViz in the picture, too.
