I just turned 49 and i have to use "cheaters" to read. I have noticed my sight picture is not good anymore. I bought a CORE today and now need a red dot. My wife will get it for me for Christmas so it needs to be $300 or less (preferably less). I have zero experience with these other than watching you tube videos. Please guide me in the right direction.

I have the Burris Fastfire III 8 MOA on mine and like it a lot. Be aware it barely co-witness with the sights. $199 on Amazon.
Amazon.com : Burris 300236 Fastfire III with Picatinny Mount 8 MOA Sight

I had a Burris Faste Fire III on mine. It held zero well and has a small footprint. I took it off because it was too slow for me (progressive bifocals cured my fuzzy sights) and it always got burnt powder residue on the face of it. Probably at the upper end of your price range though.

RMR 01

Had three different reasonably priced red dots. One didn't even get mounted before switch failed, one failed after one range trip and the other would not hold zero. Finally bought a Trijicon RMR 01. Pricey but well worth it. NO switches always on. Battery supposed to last 1-2 years. Still going strong after 5 months. Like I said PRICEY but couldn't be happier with it.

My 40 CORE has the Burris Fast Fire III. Works fine, when I shoot it. Does barely co-witness as previously mentioned.

I have the Vortex Venom on my CORE. Retail price was $239 when I bought it. Vortex also makes a Viper that has a little bit better co-witness.
I have been extremely happy with Vortex.

Viper, all the way

The Viper is better for co-witness and is the only red dot
Vortex recommends as a direct fit on the CORE

The Razor is a competition RD, but requires some fitting
and does not co-witness with the stock sights.
