I have a S&W M&P 2" sq. butt revolver blued with s/n C3285XX.
Which box is correct, the gold box or the blue box (with "S&W" in large letters on one end flap) ?
Thanks in advance.

Probably the blue box, as that's a pretty late gun to have arrived in a gold box, however there's no real formulae for deciding which box is correct for S&W revolvers, as what ever box happened to be on hand when the guns went to the vault, got the gun. There are post WW2 shipped guns that went out the door in WW1 era boxes, because a trove of old boxes happened to be uncovered somewhere and S&W seldom threw away anything they could still use. Ed.

Also, nickle guns didn't necessarily ship in gray boxes. I've had several nickle guns that shipped in blue boxes. As in all fields of collecting there are NO constants.............

My wife owns a 4" Nickel M&P with close serial number C3233xx
It was shipped in Feb '55 and has original gold box. Bottom of box has serial number and end of box ink stamped "Nickel Finish". (all of this info doesn't prove anything but will give you a reference:))
