Which custom revolver grips do you prefer?

Which of the following revolver grips do you prefer in terms of comfort, handling recoil, looks, etc. for S&W N frames and Ruger Redhawk?

2. Ahrends combat with finger grooves
3. Nill
4. Herret's Ropers

These were made by John Culinga, I asked him if he could make a pair of N frame square butt target grips for an N frame round butt revolver. He told me he could and asked me if I would like to try a pair in honey bastogne walnut, I said "You Betcha!" Here were go, I tried everything to make this a sweet shooting pistol and after all the magna porting the grips that John made did it right. Everyone that fires this pistol is amazed at how moderate the recoil is, fairly hot magnums feel like standard velocity .44 specials. I'll put my vote in for John...

I don't care much for mass-produced cookie-cutter aftermarket grips when there are still so many true craftsmen like the aforementioned gentlemen putting real hand-crafted wood (or stag, ivory, etc.) to steel out there. You can't go wrong with any of their work.

i havent tried a lot of different grips ,but these ahrends finger groove stocks work and look good .both sets well built ,fit well.
dont discount S&W finger groove combat stocks either i use these on my 17 .helps deliver a very consistant grip

I like Ahrends and Hogue wood grips that have nicer wood. I have 3 sets of Thailand grips with great wood. I also get a big kick out of my Keith Browns, 3 sets. I only have pictures of the Ropers he made for me in exhibition English Walnut. They were made to be put on my custom .32 long made from a K-22 by Andy Horvath. This is a bucket list gun, always wanted something custom and these grips finish it off. Larry

If you have fairly large hands and like finger groove grips, the S&W Combat Stocks and Fancy Wood Hogue Monogrips feel great. I like Ahrends grips too, however I must use their non-grooved versions like the Tactical Revolver and Retro-Target. The Aherends finger grooves are a bit tight for my mitts.

Older Herretts Star and Shooting Master grips are great.
The Herretts Jordan Trooper Grips are also very, very nice.

Stay away from Eagle- I've never had a set of their India made grips fit without a bit of work and they often warp.

If you don't mind laminated woods, Altamont makes some very nice, good fitting grips too, especially their J frame grips.

You forgot to list the Patrick Grashorn Elk Stag grips. They are top of the line IMHO.

There is an older lady that sets up tables at the Tulsa show every year. I have had good luck finding Hogue grips there. You can look at many sets to pick the finish and grain on them.

Which custom grips do you prefer?

I prefer the Ahrends Tactical oil treated, square with no finger grooves. I have these on all my revolvers K,L and N frame. One of the features I like with this grip is I shoot with either hand so there is no issue of using a grip primarily made for right handed shooting. There are many fine grips out there to be sure. These just so happen to fit my hands well and recoil wise on my 357s are fairly comfortable.

I don't know that I've felt a better shooting grip than Ahrends Retro Combat square butt grips. It's one of those grips that feels like they used my own hand to mold the shape. I'm starting to add them to everything I can at this point.
