Which do I buy.. Python or Nickel M19?

I have had a Python for a while and I love it. Saying that, I love shooting my recently acquired N frame 27 more. I have never had a 19 and only remotely shooting one, and what I remember is the 19 shot ok too.

A big +1

I have a 4" electroless Python and suggest you get one (any Python) while you can. For everyday use a 19 would be perfect tho I don't got one.

Dhenry has not owned a Python with timing problems, but I have seen them with timing problems. The actions on these guns are more complicated than the Smith and Wesson actions, hence the higher price to manufacture them. The Pythons are wonderfully accurate guns shooting single action due to the care Colt took in rifleing the barrels, but the double action trigger pull does take some getting used to. Even though the model 19 is a lighter weight gun a good shooter can still put six shots on a target faster and more accurately double action with the 19 than he will with the Python. I'm talkin' about VERY fast close range double action combat style shooting, not leisurely target shooting.
I'm not bashing the Python. It's a classy gun for sure, just observations I've made personally.

Thanks folks, this purchase will be for an investment either way. I already have an as NIB M19-4 safe queen and this M19-4 is it's Nickel sister. I don't have any nickel guns. I have two older Colt Official Police .38's but have never had a Python. This Python is really the one I want because it is just like the one David Soul used in "Magnum Force". I love this gun and really want it. I am certainly leaning towards the Python. As for price, the Python is double what they want for the M-19.

Thanks for all the insight folks. If no one else has moved on the Python, I will reserve it tomorrow and get it next Friday.

You have been given an accurate picture of both, and i can say i own examples of each that i will never part with. Carolina Tom's comments are consistent with my exprience.

One additional point though: Pythons do fall out of timing more easily, but do NOT let any ole hack work on them. Finding Colt smiths gets harder every day.

But it is still worth it to do so.

Just a side note. While David Soul did use a 4" Python in "Magnum Force" he also used both a 4" and a 6" Python in "Starsky & Hutch".

YEah I got the 1st season boxed set for Christmas and I was shocked to see that he used a 6" for the first year. Clint must have had an effect on him.

A 4" nickel M19-4 and a 4"1774 Colt Python. Both are in 95% - 98%. There is an obvious price discrepancy but I want both but have to chose one?
You should go to the calguns forum and see what pythons sell for out here in kali. Beaters are $1200 and I've seen choice ones priced at $3500.

Check the first season DVD set closely. You'll find he used both. He started the pilot with a .38 Special then in the regular season he started with the 4" then after a few episodes he switched to a 6". Also in some episodes he used both the 4" and 6". In one he holds a 4" to a BG's head but holsters a 6" after the cavalry gets there. There are many such bloopers in the series. Clint did impress the producers and they wanted to equalize the effect.

LOL, that is funny. I had not noticed that. I am still on the first disc. I love that show and have been a Soul fan since I was a kid.
