(Sorry if this is the FAQ of the month, but the Search didn't find anything....

I just picked up an M&P40C (to go with my full size), and found a current promo offering $50 or a pair of magazines.

So far so good, but there are three magazines listed:

.40 S&W Compact 10 rd mags (Mag #39485)

.40 S&W/.357 10 Rd Mags (Mag # 39496)

and a 15 round mag I'm not interested in.

My gun came with a pair of 10's labeled:

40 S&W
.357

(One's got a pinkie rest, and the other is plain.)

I want to match the pinkie rest magazine if possible. Does anybody know which of the two numbers I listed above is correct?

(My mags for the full-size are also labeled 40 S&W / .357....)

The rebate runs for another month, but as usual getting the request in early is a good idea. My dealer didn't know about this one at all - I'd thought I'd heard about it, but the whole purchase was almost an impulse item.

(FWIW, both M&P 40's are super. A quick fluff & buff with the new one and no problems putting about 30 rounds into an 8-1/2 x 11 paper at about 50'. No malfunctions, either.... The older one had it's sights badly installed. This one's look a little funny :), but ought to be OK - sure were good enough tonight.)

TIA

The compact F/R mag is #39484, the #39485 is the flat base. The 10rd #39496 is for the full size M&P. If the #39484 isn't listed you might make a note on your order form and they should send you those or throw in the F/R basepads with them.

Handgunner:

Thanks!

You'd think they'd explain that :)....

I couldn't even (horrors!) find it in the manual.

BTW, two of my mags for the full-size were from a similar promo. Took an eternity, but I wasn't really in a hurry.

It also appears that the bigger mags will work in the little guy. (They fit, anyway. Didn't try function.)

Regards,

Yes the full size mags will work, there is a adapter called "X-Grip" I believe. I've got them through MidwayUSA before, around $15 and slides down over the full size mag to fill out and match the grip. S&W has been good about just sending out the F/R basepads for free if you call them.

handgunner:

I've seen that X-Grip, I think.... I have one for a supersized mag for my XD9SC. I wonder.... :D

(The M&P40C fits some holsters I have for the full-size, including a Kydex joke I picked up "just to have one". Not totally surprising, but a nice touch.)

Thanks! I'm going to do the rebate form as soon as the fool phone stops ringing :D....

Regards,

Don't feel picked on. The whole S&W web sight lacks useful and basic info. I've spend ALLOT of time trying to figure out the differences between like handgun models. Disappointing really.

Hooker:

I think they want you to buy one of each.... :D

(I'm trying....)

FYI: Just called he 866 tel number on the rebate offer. They said it takes 4-6 weeks to get your rebate on their system (the online system to check status). Then it takes 10 weeks to ship it from there.

When all is said and done, my mags should arrive in 3-4 months. Wow.

Anyone get theirs a tad sooner than that?

CF2:

Compared to the flap over the delay the last time (a couple of years ago) four months might be pretty good :D....

(I'm going to have to find a couple more someplace.)

I like to have four to six magazines for everything I shoot with some regularity so it's not a big deal....

(Two for the range - we like to shoot six & six. Two with SD loads for "around the house". At least one more so I can leave a spare magazine in my grubby jeans if I decide to carry the thing.)

Regards

Following up....

I just ordered a couple from S&W.... They seem to have 'em in stock. None of the usual suspects did when I gave a quick look earlier tonight. I think Midway had the flat-based ones but not the others....

Oh well - the gun's a keeper.

Regards

Sonny:

If you can believe CF2, figure four months....

Seems to be about what it took the last time I got involved when I bought the full size M&P40.

What's goofy, then, was that they had all kinds of "unexpected demand" excuses for eternal delays. This time around - a couple years later - they should know....

But, free is free. $60-ish (more from S&W) for the mags, maybe $6 for ordinary shipping (probably Priority Mail), and taxes if necessary (S&W says so :(), there's a decent savings there. Just takes forever....

As I mentioned earlier, I end up buying more regardless. Just me, but I like to have 'em "instantly". I can use the full size mags on the range, if necessary, but that's not conducive to anything but paper punching.

Sidebar: My full size came through with both the front and rear sights "off". Not the case this time with the Compact. Happy camper!

Mine came in at 6 weeks from the day it was sent in. The online status check is a joke, it showed no record of my application right up to the day I got them.

Six weeks beats three months.... :D

Unless you were first in line :)....

Light a candle....
