Hey everyone. Have a line on a 66-2 and a 66-3 2.5". Both seem to be in similar 90-95% condition. I would say both are in very nice shooter condition. I plan on shooting this and it may find it's way into my daily carry rotation.

If you had your choice, would you choose the -2 or the -3 all things even? Why?

Thanks!

I am a proud owner of a 66-2, prior San Antonio Police Trade-in... got it in the 80's... this is the last firearm that I would ever part with... they are exceptional. Just my 2 cents.

If prices are as comparable as everything else, I'd probably go with whichever one sang in my hand.

That said, I lean toward the 66-2; the 66-3 introduced the floating hand, a feature I'm not fond of (and was discontinued shortly thereafter).

Education time. What is the floating hand?

The link above is a good resource. Basically S&W altered the hand design to allow a limited degree of lateral play; this in theory improved carry-up longevity. In many cases the floating hand worked fine -- in others, it made for a rougher, sometimes malfunctioning trigger.

It's easily switched to an original style hand.
