I know ya'll may be biased toward Smith, but I still wanted to know which one of these would you choose. They are both on sale new in box and the same price of $279.99 +tax. I have just enough to get one and I want one of these, I have never owned either and both fit my hand good. The guns are the Smith sd9ve or the ruger sr9. thanks for any help.

They are 2 excellent pistols. I assume the Ruger is not the E model, so both will have 2 hi cap mags with the guns.
They are reliable, accurate, and have good customer service from their respective companies.
The biggest difference is the triggers. The SD has a double action trigger, The Ruger has a more single action type. It all comes down to which trigger you are comfortable with.
Both are great pistols, I have both and trust my life to either one. In the past, the Ruger has usually been a little higher priced. Sounds like a win-win either way you go.

I’m just not a fan of the budget S&W autos. I’ve owned a few but never kept them. Of those two choices I’d go with the Ruger. No particular reason other than just personal preference.

Handle both, dry fire both (if allowed) and/or shoot both if you can.
I have and SD9VE, SD9 and SD40VE and like and shoot them all well. The triggers are similar to a double action revolver (in my opinion) and I own several of those too. I haven't shot an SR9, but do have a Security 9 and like it as well.

I don't think you'll go wrong either way, good luck and happy shooting! :-)

There's always gonna be a guy that is handed two options but instead picks a third! I'll be the first to do that and I'll tell you my reasons...

*NEW* is overrated, and in guns, I think it is exceptionally overrated. For the same (or less!) money, I would get a police trade M&P or Glock. These are known guns and parts are simple to find and absolutely everyone makes holsters for them. Magazines are available by the guzlillion. These are high quality guns and finding qualified armorers to work on them is easy also.

However, if I am forced to pick between your two choices.... arrrrgh, I'd get a beater S&W 915 from Gunbroker! :D But then I guess I'd take the Ruger SR-9 and only because I have more faith in Ruger CS than S&W.

Well, I can’t compare the two you listed.
But I can compare the S&W SD9VE and the Ruger SR9C.
I have both, the Ruger wins hands down.
Much better trigger, ergonomics are slightly better and felt recoil is less.
Everyone has different opinions. These are just mine.

Tough choice since they're both great pistols for the price with similar features, but personally I'd go with the SD9VE because it's significantly lighter in weight. (SD9VE = 22.7oz / Ruger SR9 = 26.5oz)

However, it is a possibility that the Ruger SR9 is heavier because it's a more robust design which will hold up better to a steady diet of full power ammo, and said weight will obviously help to reduce the felt recoil, so depending on what you plan on using it for, the Ruger might be a better choice.

my store just emailed me, they now have the new sr9c in for the same price of $279. now i sure can't decide, darn it.

You can't really go wrong either way, so just toss a coin if you have to.

Heck, even if you dislike the one you pick you could always turn right back around and trade it for the other. I doubt that anyone would turn you down either so long as you had only put a minor amount of rounds through it.

If you can, try visiting your LGS, ask to handle both, then pick whichever one you like better.
