Which S&W 1911

I'm looking for a 1911 for casual target practice but am ultimately interested in bullseye shooting. Due to old eyes, I'll be putting a red dot sight on it, likely an Ultradot Matchdot II, similar to what I have on my model 41 22 LR. There are a lot of models on the S&W website. I'm not interested in features such as a lower rail or cut away slide and don't care if it's blue or stainless. I'll have to take off the rear sight, so it doesn't matter what kind it is. I do like the wide target trigger on the old Colt Gold Cup. Does Smith make a similar trigger? Do the "E" models have better (enhanced) accuracy? I guess my primary question is: is there any difference in accuracy in all the 5" barrel .45 S&W models listed on the website?

I'd like to shoot a factory gun and see how things go. I'm not interested at getting a custom gun built at this time.

The performance center guns are a little tighter. That does not guarantee better groups, but should.

I've owned a half dozen SW1911's and still have a three. A pro, E series and basic model. I really didn't find a measurable difference in accuracy or build quality between all. Pro series did have a slight (!) edge in trigger and came with FO sights. i didn't like to FO rear and found it to actually inhibit precision accuracy. Personally, I think your better to hunt up a nice clean used std stainless and add/change what you don't like. In my case that was the grips, short trigger and (Dawson!)FO front sight.( If you find one with an adjustable rear, you'll be ahead of the game.) It's now my favorite 1911 of all.

p.s. The good news is that 1911's are the "Mr. Potato Head " of the gun world. There are volumes of aftermarket parts , many drop in (or near so) that can transform any 1911 into your dream gun should your desires/requirements change.

personally i think if you want a SW 1911 get a performance center. They are really not much more then an e series gun.

I bought a used one at a gun shop someone traded in that was only a few months old. i assume they traded it in because they couldnt afford it in the end.

I agree with Wee. An SW1911 Pro with fiber optic sights is an excellent middle ground. Adjustable rear sights would be preferable for bullseye. Mine shot a tiny bit low for me (which was almost definitely my fault).
