Which to Sell: Sig 220 or 4566TSW (Hint: Not the S&W)

My own take is that you are not over-supplied with .45s, so why sell either? The P220 is an aluminum-frame gun, lightweight. Your S&W is all stainless, heavier. It’s not an apples-apples comparison. There are times and places I might wear the P220 if I liked it (I prefer a Commander). The 4566 would be a dedicated range gun, where I would not be worried about wear and tear on the aluminum-frame of the SIG. That's my .02, FWLIW.

You can go out right now today and buy a brand new Sig 220. Many flavors to choose from.
Can you go out and buy a brand new S&W 4500?

Tossup.

If the Smith has the bumper hanging off, don’t know if they made one with that ugly appendage, no contest, Sig.

My P220 is all steel frame.

I’ve never heard even the alloy P220s called ‘lightweight’ lol.

At 26 ounces they are pretty light for a duty sized .45.
A Combat Commander is 36 ounces, by comparison.

An aluminum-frame P220 is about 30-31 ounces, so it’s not quite as light as a Commander, but it doesn’t miss it by much. It’s quite a bit lighter than a Government model 1911.

But yes, I agree, particularly by comparison with today’s micro-pistol specs, an alloy P220 is only lightweight in the sense of comparing it with a 4566. :D That said, I’d still be inclined to hang on to the 4566. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I sold my 220 recently because it didn't fit my hand the best; really nice gun, just not the best fit for me.

If selling and looking to replace with something else as stated, my recommendation would be to buy an upper-end S&W.

Do you have a Model 27 3 1/2"? 5 screw 29? 4 screw, etc. Lew Horton 3" guns?

If selling just apply the money to something that will continue to increase in value (most likely) that you can enjoy; also can take the other approach of finding a really nice shooter or two.

I sold my Sig P220.
Dont miss it.
Good luck getting me to part with my 4566.

Same here... the P220 never wowed me. S&W is where it is at!

I have a 4566TSW . It's not bad , but it's definitely not my favourite 45 . I second getting an 845 , which are hard to come by and expensive . Get yourself a 945 and you'll never regret it . Of course you'll find yourself wanting another one , most of us do .

I've decided to sell...the Beretta PX4 in .40.

And I'm convinced, I'm keeping both the Sig and the Smith. They really are nice guns, for different reasons, and as I don't need the money and really can't think of anything to replace them with, why sell?

The PX4, on the other hand, is just a bedside gun and I have a couple of ready replacements for that, so when another Smith comes up that catches my fancy and is attractively priced, I'll have a bit of cash for it.

Many thanks for all the comments, the different perspectives got me to some critical thinking and, thinking critically, it's apparent I should keep both guns.

Now, I'll be scrolling to the "Guns for sale" section and see what's cook'n.

I have a PX4 Storm SD in .45. It is an amazing gun.
