I have scored a slew of great carry guns. Early on I thought in winter it would be the 686 snub and my 36-7 for warmer weather.

Forget my choices. Which of the guns presented would you carry?

One foreigner. A Colt Agent and then all S&W

A modified 360J light weight with an Apex trigger, trimmed down trigger, Xcess front sight. .38 only.

12-2 Airweight

Old school 60 ND

649

586-7 3" F comp PC

686-4 2.5"

66-6 3" PC ported. Double action only.

640 nd 3"

60 ND Factory combat grips.

629 PC snub

34-1

A double action 66-6 ported.

And one for dress occasions. 12-3

If I were to carry a revolver, I would go with a bobbed hammer model or one without an exposed hammer. When I hunt, I carry a bobbed Taurus Judge.

For what you are showing, I would go with the 586-7 3" F Comp PC, 640 nd 3", 60 ND Factory Combat Grips. No hammer to worry about getting snagged and no worries about needing to remember to pull the hammer back to fire.

If my only choices are snub-nose revolvers (not any real choice at all) at least give me one with an exposed hammer.

Common now, your just showing off :)

Really any will do just pick one of the lighter ones that you shoot well and your good to go. Nice collection of fine firearms.

Daily carry will add dings here and there. I'd pick the Taurus for dings.

ADDED Looks like you only have a Taurus box.

66-6 3" ported

I like the 66-6 3" ported or the 629 pc snub. I usually carry S&W 21 in 44 special or my Lew Horton 629 44 magnum. And a 642 in the left pocket.

I do like that colt agent also. Very nice collection!

I hear S&W is having money problems again. I think they should focus on what they do best, revolvers. Go back to no internal lock and more retro, revolvers, revolvers and revolvers. The auto craze will pass. You just can't beat the simplicity. And with an aging population...

Carried the 1911 for the better part of 40 years and with age I find the revolver to be my best friend. I had shoulder surgery this Veteran's Day. Ripped the rotator cuff off the bone and tore a ligament. I'm not sure how much I will every be shooting my 1911's.

The no, bobbed, & shrouded hammer variety for me, but I would also use CT/laser grips on anything carried.

which one?

trolley,

for winter carry, i would carry one of the following, based on which I can draw and fire and make follow up shots the best:

19-7 K comp 3 inch barrel

66-6 PC DAO 3 inch barrel

66-6 PC 3 inch barrel

686-4 2.5 inch barrel

do your eyes pick up the orange sights or the tritium sights more quickly?

do any of these have an advantage over another for you with on target follow up shots? (ex. the porting or a better trigger?)

do you shoot any of these better than the others with one hand, either dominant or weak hand?

And as many others here, i would also find one of the J frames in my pocket as a BUG.

Have fun choosing!

I have a Colt Cobra and a S&W 12(no dash) and find they're very similar in performance. I never carry my 12 because it is like new and the Cobra is worn and pitted. Your Nickel finish would stay in great condition longer than a blued gun! Ivan

Showoff :)
May I suggest a 642? ;)

Yea, but it gives us a chance to chat about this stuff with the liked minded. That is the payoff for the OP and the responders. And of course we learn to take a ribbing.

Thanks for the poke!

Joe

Thanks for the questions guskody,

do your eyes pick up the orange sights or the tritium sights more quickly?

Yes the do. But the quickest pick up is the Xcess big dot on the 360J

do any of these have an advantage over another for you with on target follow up shots? (ex. the porting or a better trigger?)

I do believe the porting helps and the difference is noticeable. Better triggers mostly mean more POA becoming POI.

do you shoot any of these better than the others with one hand, either dominant or weak hand?

I hate to admit it but I only practice double handed. I am a fair shot at best. Having a great gun helps a lot when that is the case. A good shooter can shot most guns well. We weaker shooters need all the help we can get.

Carrying a BUG every day means I get to choose two great guns. That is sweet.

That 649 Humpback... You still have the option to cock and fire single action if that is a good idea, yet you have nothing to snag on a shirt-tail or pocket. My Model 49 is my bomber jacket pocket gun. In a pinch, multiple shots through the pocket without an exposed hammer snagging, nor a slide stopped.

To the gents requiring exposed hammer: Is the single action option the reason? If so, the 649/49 is the best of both worlds!

If I'm holstering, it'll be a small, slick slide semi auto in .40 or .45...

To many choices! :D

I vote the model 12-2 airweight on your hip then the 360J in your weak side pocket in warmer weather and the DAO 66-6 on your hip with the Agent in your weak side pocket in colder weather. Granted I'd prefer a bobbed hammer on the 12.

I'd throw the 649 in there as well from time to time.

You have a very nice collection, especially those model 12's!

Hah...Oh come on now...This question was just an excuse to show off your nice guns, right?...My usual perspective is that a serious carry gun is one that is accurate, reliable and should be effective and one I would not be hesitant to bang up or be very unhappy about it going into a dusty locker in a property/evidence room for a year. Its a tool so my choice isn't one of my pristine, vintage guns...You have some nice stuff there.

wow, nice collection! Of those I have to go with my personal preference, the 686 2.5. Long time favorite and it has a one piece barrel, no lock or MIM parts. Also like your M34...
