Which would you choose?

I like the looks of the KBAR and if memory serves me they are USA made as I am almost sure the S&W's are not. Always buy American when you can.

For a knife like that, personally I'd need to hold it first. I've had my share of disappointments when purchasing online.

Between those two, I'd go with the Ka Bar since I know them and don't have much experience with S&W fixed blades.

Unless you are looking for a "cheap" knife,I would not go with either one of those.Try looking at Benchmade or Cold Steel brand knives,it's hard to beat either one of these store bought knives.Hand made forged knives are the best but are very expensive.

Go with a benchmade or coldsteel you wont be sorry. They cost a little more but for around 125.00 you can get a knife that wont quit. If you want some imput on which ones to look at send me a p.m.

+1 to Gunnut. Never seen a U.S. made S&W knife; All China.
S&W knives from the 70's were made in Springfield, MA(except for the folder made in Olean, NY). Knives from the 80's were made at the Houlton, ME plant. Knives from the early 90's were made in Seki, Japan. All of these are excellent quality. Later knives are made in Taiwan or China and are good quality for the price. You can't pay around $25, and often less, and expect steel and features found in a $150 knife. It's not reasonable.

The knife the OP is asking about, the Search & Rescue, is a very good buy at where it's priced.

if you need a tough & reliable "hard use" knife and price is an important factor, i'd suggest that you look at the glock field knife ;)

I'm looking for a good combat knife. I want something solid quality and as sturdy as possible. What's your opinion of the Smith and Wesson Search and Rescue versus the Ka-Bar Combat knives? Thanks for your opinion and knives shown in link below.

Smith and Wesson Knives: S&W Search and Rescue Knife, Model CKSUR2, SW-CKSUR2

KA-1212, KA-BAR Black USMC Utility, Part Serrated Edge, Leather

Neither of these is a true combat knife, both are more of a general pupose/utilty knife. The point on a combat knife should be centered on the blade for stabbing. Here is an Ontario Navy MK3 Combat Knife as an example of what I mean. The new USMC M16 bayonet is a knife I like a lot also if you can find one at a decent price.
