it is a Browning, hi-cap, and 9mm; a Browning BDM...

While somewhat similar to the Sig Sauer in disassembly with a rotating takedown lever, the barrel locking lug is pure Browning High Power. What really sets this pistol apart though is the two position screw on the left side of the slide; in the up position it functions as both in DA and SA; in the down position it is a DAO pistol. Next plan is to get some hi-cap magazines for it and drag it to the range. I paid $375 for it.

Wonder what the P and R stand for by the screw...and does the safety works like a PPK, where up is hot and down is safe? Looks that way from the red fire dot.

I could have bought one of those in .38 Super. I understand only a few .38 Supers were built.

P versus R

The P means pistol and makes the gun DA/SA. R, as used on this pistol, means Revolver (I know it is a pistol) and by using the R setting the gun is DAO.

I don't know why it was only made for about 8 years but I suspect the market was flooded with "wonder nines" and it never really caught on. I've read more good then bad about it...

I can remember reading about them in a gun magazine, and then seeing a few of them at gun shows, too.

They faded away quite quickly.

I understand that finding extra magazines for them is pretty hard, as relatively few were made.

It looked like a good idea, to me. I already had a Hi-Power, or I might have bought one.

My theory is that it wasn't enough of a Glock for the Glock crowd, and not enough of a BHP for those of us who have good sense. ;>)

Had a couple of chances to buy one but bought another BHP instead.
Had a pile of magazines for the BHP already, so didn't want to have
to start another collection of pistol mags.
