Anybody here collect Whiskey Jugs? I have a friend that has a couple. I don't know, or really care, if they are antiques. I thought it would be cool to have one. Any idea where the best place to get one is? Also, what do I need to look for when buying one?

If he's a friend he'll help you find a good one or two or three or.

There are over 2800 listed on ebay from new to very old and a price to go with it ....personally ....I would rather have another MP9 Shield than the cost of a genuine old tyme whisky crock jug .....and having been in the antique business ...an antique shop will be no bargain ...best shot is an auction of an estate ....which takes a lot of time to search out ...and cost ...It always amazes me how folks will drive around the world ....burn hours and hours ...the be happy with the $50 item they saved $100 on ??? What I am saying is if you find one you like buy it ...one way or the other you will pay for it ....again ....I'll take the MP9 Shield thank you!

But if it trips your trigger ....enjoy the hunt of the "little o jug" and good luck

Brokenbear is correct on all his pints, sorry that should have been points. A true antique crock whiskey jug is not going to be inexpensive and the chance of buying a knock-off is great. Then how do you know it was used for whiskey and not maple syrup or molasses. Although I'm sure a lot were dual purpose...... If you are only after one for decoration then buy one that you know is a reproduction and be done. On the other hand if you are seeking a true antique then I suggest a tremendous amount of research, starting with a google search. Best of luck, hardcase60

I have one Casper whiskey jug. That's all I need. I have a friend who collects Casper whiskey bottles and jugs. They are actually quite collectible.

boykinip,

In the 'better for looks" department, i believe that falls back on you, as they say "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". I'm a little confused by the next part about "brand to look for?" It's probably a pretty safe bet that all reproduction whiskey crocks are manufactured in some third world subdivision. Not sure it makes a difference. Now, if you are looking for a jug that advertises a specific brand of whiskey that is another story.
Again it's going to be what pleases your eye. I've seen some from several different distillers, one being Jack Daniels. For your quest, E-bay is truly a best friend. One thing to note is that the crock jug that was found in the back of the feed room in great great granddads barn or under grannies kitchen sink probably wasn't labeled with a brand. Have fun!! hardcase60

By brand, I did mean brand of whiskey. I agree that what you like, I may not like. I was thinking there may be a brand of whiskey jug that was the most popular to find, and therefore, would be reproduced a lot. BTW, if anybody has any pictures to share on these, I would love to see them! I will look on ebay.
