As some here might know I am a Single Barrel Jack man when I drink, but today one of my Shootin' Bud's came over to pick up a tool and brought over a few good stogies and a bottle of Whistle Pig Rye. I have to tell you it was SPECTACULAR! It tasted SUPER SMOOTH and delicious and was the first Rye Whisky I've tried in many years. You would not know it was 100 Proof because it was so smooth, and you do have to be careful because at 50% Alcohol it sneaks up on you mighty quick. It's also expensive (about $60 Bucks) but I will pick up a bottle on my next trip to the Spirit Shop to enjoy on special occasions. Just wanted to let some of you Fellas know.

Thanks for the tip. I am partial to rye whiskey, mostly Overholt for my budget, but I like to pick up a bottle of Bulleit or Templeton every now and again. I haven't seen Whistle Pig around here, but there are a couple of places where, If I ask for it, like as not it will be on their shelf in a few weeks.

I have a bottle of Knob Creek Rye open now, if I remember right I think it is 100 proof and it goes down smoother then a raw egg. I will have to keep an eye for Whistle Pig Rye.

I like templeton rye. never heard of the brand you mentioned. will have to look for it next time.

+1 on Knob Creek (great stuff), but I'm not a "Knob snob" and will gladly give Whistle Pig a go!

Thanks for the heads up chief!

Yea, $60 Bucks for 750ml is a bit steep. It is certainly not a drink to have as a regular, but as a special occasion treat it's nice.

My usual Friday evening drink is Single Barrel Jack which is almost as much ($57 Bucks/750ml) but I do also like the regular black label #7 Jack which is about $40 bucks / 1.75 ltr.

The (new to me) Whistle Pig Rye will be sipped slowly.... :)

I'm going to keep an eye out for this bottling.

Searching around the web it sounds like this is a Canadian rye with the whisky supplied by Alberta Distillers. They bottle Alberta Springs 100% rye which is one of my favorite Canadian rye whiskies. With Alberta Distillers supplying the base stock Whistle Pig should be a great all be it expensive bottling.

The other Canadian rye I buy often is Forty Creek Barrel Select Whisky. It is another small patch pot still whisky well worth having in the cabinet.

If I'm drinking American Rye, which really has a different style and flavor profile from the Canadian rye whiskies, I'm drinking High West Double Rye bottle right here in Park City, Utah. It is excellent with a very complex rye spicy profile.
