The store in town to find the all important Styrofoam 50# fish shipping boxes, salmon nets, folding gaffes and the handy fish whacker! Walking through the store is like seeing a mini slice of Americana. Redneck fisherpeople, hippies and girls walking through the store in bikini tops and waders!:D

A few years ago, I just happened to go into that store.
I see these two women, teenage boy and probably 10 year old girl.
These were 'plain' dressed. I asked several store employees who they were, got answers like 'they are Russians.'
I asked they are Russian what group?
Nobody seemed to know.
Maybe Mennonites? Are there Mennonites in Alaska?

Yes sir, a BIG Freddies but don't worry , the great donut shop is still there in town and the city park has a great expanded metal walkway with fish cleaning stations and steps down to the river every couple hundred steps or so!

All I know is.........

The store type FM spaghetti sauce is the best out of all the other stores brands !!

Can't find any in my neck of the woods.

There is a colony of "old believers" near Homer and there are also some near Nikiski and maybe Anchor point. When my son was skiing we always hit the Fred's every January. Picked up a couple of good deals on S&W J frames by watching the bulliten boards.
