I have many firearms including some state of the art, modern semi auto guns. But I gravitate towards carrying what many call old school guns. My favorite and most often carried guns are my S&W Model 15 2 inch snub and a vintage Charter Arms Police Bulldog .38. Who else carries “old school” stuff on a daily basis? Here are my two….

I believe since double-action revolvers as we know them today, in both Colt and S&W brands, have been around since prior to 1900 that anyone who carries a double-action revolver of either of these brands or similar (Rossi, etc.) can be considered as carrying an "Old School" gun.:D:D:D

Revolvers were state-of-the-art when I was born and still were when I started shooting. So far as I am concerned they are still to be preferred over anyone's "plastic fantastic", I still trust the technology more that that of striker-fired guns. I own numerous semi-automatic pistols from several manufacturers ranging from .32 A.C.P. to .45 A.C.P., and all but one is hammer-fired. The exception is a .380 "Browning Pocket", and I don't carry it. (because it is near 100% condition). I have carried many of them at different times.

I do not have a "carry rotation" like some folks enjoy but I do have two distinct primary carry guns. My EDC is quite modern. However I have an alternate primary that I carry specifically when I know I am forced to leave it behind. That means a concert, sporting event, any school function, etc.

And you could make the argument that it fits your topic here. It's a S&W 469, the first S&W "minigun", a small pistol that was factory made by a big-name gun maker early in an era where the only small semiautomatic pistols in a capable caliber were altered larger guns by custom outfits.

The S&W 469 probably bit hard in to the sales or perhaps for many, the desire for guns like the ASP and Devel Custom guns. For the first time, you could get a concealable QUALITY pistol in a substantial caliber.

My example is old enough that it is A-prefix and predates the triple-alpha serial prefix guns. It was made in 1982. The evolution of the 469 was the 6904. It's a 12+1 double stack, double action pistol with an alloy frame and a spurless hammer.

It's a pretty good gun and it's also more accurate than I think it oughta be for a smallish pistol. I paid chicken feed for it from Gunbroker but to be fair, that was almost a decade ago. I chose this specifically to -BE- the low-cost gun that could get stolen because it is forced to be left behind, and it certainly fit that role at the price I paid for it. Trouble is hahaha, I can no longer replace it for chump change.

My EDC is either S&W Model 19 with 2 1/2” barrel or S&W M&P with 2” barrel shipped in 1948. I shoot both in PPC concealed carry matches and always pleased how well you can shoot them at 25 yards.

High Standard .22 Magnum derringer - so, as part of Every Day Carry, is this old school enough? Because I carry it every day - in the pocket of my robe! :D

Custom M64 002 with 2" Model 12 "Airweight" barrel replacing the original 4" barrel - EDC? On rare occasion outside but it's ready to go inside the house Every Day. ;)

I guess those are sufficient..............:)

Colt Government Model Series 70 in .45ACP

Swapped an AK for it in, of all places, AK, back in '85 up in Fairbanks. Been my primary carry piece ever since. Had an Honor Legion buddy of mine who used to swear "Big lead knocks them dead". He would know.

Wife has instructions that when I die, it gets buried with me in Condition 2 with 2 spare mags, a Randal #16 and a 12 pack of Cherry Coke.

I had a buddy who used to carry one of those High Standards in .22 Mag as his retirement piece. I used to bust his blls about it.

One day he comes in my office, takes off his jacket and he's got a worn flat-latch Chiefs Special on his belt with two speedloaders.

"Hey Frankie, whats with the artillery?"

"Robbie, I went into a bodega to get a deck of smokes and three <1950's ethnic slur> were robbing the place."

" No sht! what'd you do?"

"Drew my piece, backed out and called it in from a payphone."

Guess he never figured he'd run up against more than two guys.

Frankie came on 'da Job when he got back from Korea, did his 20, drove a bus for another 20 and then pulled the pin. He was a good guy and had great stories of the 1960's riots.

Him and I were going out to the range one day to try out some cast bullet loads for a Krag (him and I were big cast bullet guys) and he plopped himself in his easy chair in the living room of his house waiting for me, closed his eyes and went to the Eternal Foot Post. He was a good guy.
