Who I still waiting?

Got mine back in april. I think the 28th. They had 5 9mm left at the time and plenty of .40. I know no one around this area has any. I had to travel like 2 hrs to get one. Though I was making the trip past the place anyways. I payed 419 for mine. I guess I got lucky. Idk. If you don't mind the drive... call around instead of waiting.

You won't believe what happened today. I was on a waiting list at my LGS for a shield 9 but was beginning to get the feeling that it would be quite a while before they would be delivered. Found a .40 on gunbrokers.com so I went ahead and ordered it. It came in today. On my way to pick it up my LGS calls and my 9 came in! Picked up one and then went to pick up the other. Tomorrow will be spent at the range.

I finally got one. I called a LGS that had one a week ago priced at $492, he still had it. I found out about the veterans rebate so I thought I'd go try to talk him down off that price. When I got there, they had just received another Shield 9 and priced it at $459. I know that is higher than most are paying, but doesn't look like supply is catching up to demand anytime soon so I took it. Since I can get the veterans rebate, I felt okay with it. Can't wait to get out to the range!

In my city, they are just impossible to get. You have to get on a list. Every LGS that I have talked to has a waiting list for the Shield.

Here's my ten day old!

Here's a pic of my ten day old and yes I am Gloating, but I did put my name on a list and I was second on it for the 40 and it came in yesterday morning and I paid for it this afternoon!

Shield 40 cal Recoil?

For those of you that have the Shield 40 cal, how is the recoil? I'm on the list for a 9mm because I wasn't sure how the recoil of the .40 would be.

Well I am certain that the recoil will be snappy with the 40 but since a 40 is my everyday carry then I can handle it, now a .357SIG is really a handful but I can handle that as well just don't like the prices of the ammunition.

I look at it like this if anyone makes a handgun I will shoot it regardless of recoil, I will learn how to control it and not have it control me!

Every gun I have is a 9. I have a kahr mk, an HK 2000sk, Hk P30 and a Sig 239. I found the Shield 40 no more difficult to handle than any of those and it was the first 40 I've ever fired. For me, it was more accurate than my Kahr. I'm not particularly big, 5'2" with small hands. The Shield 9 however was the best gun I've ever fired. It was my intention to make up my mind as to which one to keep but I'm leaning towards keeping both.

Well I would wait a bit and consider just buying a factory barrel for a 9 mm and taking out the 40 like I do with my bigger boys except I use a .357SIG in both my 40's!

I'm a guy and I don't have big hands either that's why I like the smaller grips so I can grip and handle the gun securely. This will be my 1st handgun and will use it for conceal carry. So I think I'm going to go with the 9mm. Do any of you like having the extra round of 9mm over having 1 less in the .40 cal?

Waiting won't do because I already own both. However, if this was my first gun and I had to chose between them, I would probably pick the 9. Can't say I even thought about the extra round though. You'll be happy with the gun. I had a fun afternoon.

While I am also a small man at 5'6" and anywhere from 140 to 145 pounds my hands are of average size but I am also in the construction as an electrician and I pull twist and lift heavy objects all the time so I have tremendous hand strength and grip so maybe to me gripping a gun is no big deal nor is firing one of any caliber made. That being said if you are new you should consider the 9mm as a first weapon and after some practice then look at other calibers!

I debated long and hard and grabbed a 9mm yesterday. Many members recommended various hot 9mm self defense ammo that rivals .40 ballistics, target ammo is less expensive, follow up shots are typically quicker (more shots on target comparatively) and as you said that extra round might be the one I need. Just my $.02

Got an email from my LGS today, he got a shipment and I'll pick one up tomorrow, 9mm. Was there today but they were not in yet, but did pick up an extended mag while there. Was offered a 40 last week, but passed on that.

Yeah, 9mm ammo is less expensive in my area compared to 40S&W. So that's one reason why I'm going with a 9mm to save a little money with target rounds and spend the money on quality defensive rounds.

Any of you, What defensive ammo you plan to shoot out of the Shield 9?

I've heard such good things about Hornady's Critical Defense I picked up a box of it today. I like Gold Dot, and Golden Sabers as well.

I took my wife to look at one today. She really likes it. So, I am going to put some money down and get on the list tomorrow.
