Who likes 44s more than 357s?

Preferring on caliber is akin to having had only one girlfriend. You miss out on a lot.

I love anything that shoots, .22, .32, .38, .357, .41, .44, or .45.

However some girls were better than others for some reasons and some girls were better than others for other reasons.

Every once in a while I like to shoot full house .44 Magnums just to feel them go off.

Fact number one: The .357 magnum would have replaced the 16 inch guns on American battleships...had the battleships had a stronger hull to handle the awesomeness of the round.

Fact number two: The .44 magnum usually lacks the power to make it out of the barrel.

Fact number three: I'm kidding but had to put in a good word for the .357 ;)

Don't sell your .357's guys. You'll go back to them from time to time and shoot and admire them all over again just 'cause they're .357's. I like the .44's and .45's too, but I enjoy them all at different times.

sounds like the 44 is popular with most everyone I know it is in my camp I have 19 centerfire handguns all in 44mag

I've been shooting and reloading both the .44 and .357 Magnums for over 30 years now. I love the .44, but on my top 5 cartridge list, it ranks as follows:

1. .357 Mag
2. .22 LR
3. .44 Mag
4. .38 Special
5. .30-30 Win.

Just my opinion!

When I take revolvers to the range it's usually one of my 44 mags and occasionally a 44 Special. I like my 357 revolvers but they spend more time sitting around. Most of the time I take 1911's & 22lr handguns to the range.

I have one 357-Model 28 and one 44 mag the others are 45ACPs and one 45 long colt.

Who likes 44s more than 357s?

Doesn't everyone? :) I currently have three of those small bore revolvers, but two will eventually be converted to .44 Spl, and the third to .41 Spl.

Bigger bores do the job with less bark and more style. ;)

Count me in!

I have both, prefer the .44 by a landslide.

I use the .357 as an economy firearm. Feels similar to the N frame, uses less lead and powder, so I can train with it every so often on the cheap.

Few firearms are as satisfying to me as the .44.

"Who likes 44s more than 357s?"

I do. No good reason why, either. But when "44" comes to mind or is a topic of discussion, the first thing I think of is "Big Blue," a 6-1/2" 29 Classic I bought used many years ago. I've shot hundreds of round through it, first at the indoor range, then at the outdoor range, and then at 700+ yard steel machine gun targets. It's big, it's heavy, and it's a cannon. Perfect for a guy who shoots .30 and .50 Browning beltfed machineguns just for fun.

IMO, Smith & Wesson is defined by the 44HE. The .38/44HD and, later, the .357 are certainly innovative but it all started with the 44HE.

I bought my wife a .357.
She shot my 629 and sold the .357.
.44 is now the smallest bore she will carry.
I love that woman.

44 mag is my favorite. One goes to the rane everytime I shoot. Have not shot 357 in a long time.

I have always been a fan of the 357 magnum, but since I bought my 44 magnum, I have not shot my 357s.I really like the large holes it makes in the target, you dont have to look very hard to see where you hit the target. LOL! The recoil is not that bad and I am going to start loading my own rounds so, the 44 will be even more of a joy to shoot. I have started looking for a 3''. Maybe I have been bit by the 44 bug ? What did you guys do to me?!!!! LOL!!!!!

Sir, FWIW, I prefer the .44 over the 357, and the .45s--both Colt and ACP--over either.

The .357 has its place, though. I like its ubiquity, that it can be had in smaller guns than the .44 and .45, and also that it's usually very accurate.

JMHO.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

Are they still making 357"s?

I like them both and have way too many of each but the 44's see way more use. If I weren't a reloader it may be the other way around as the milder loads are certainly more fun to shoot on a regular basis.

Here's my "new" 629-1. I don't know if I'll like it any better than my three, 357's, but I do plan on trying to figure that out...a lot!

I have a 357 and also 41 & 44mags, I prefer the 44 over all. My 357 mod686+ I bought new and has only had 38spc +P ammo through it because I had a Mod 15 4" first and that is what I had on hand for loading. Have recently been considering getting some 357 brass and work up some loads...

hang on a sec...

OK I'm back, just ordered some 357 brass, anyway, I still like my 44mag but will let you know on the 357 when my brass comes in... :)

I always thought that if all desirable attributes of revolvers and all potential uses were factored together, a six-inch .357 Magnum would be the result.

Saying that, I shoot a lot more .38 Special than any other centerfire handgun round. When I am in the mood for something more I generally look past my .357 Magnums to the .44s, either the .44 Special or .44 Magnum.

I enjoy thinking about the good ol' .44 Special most of all.

I actually enjoy both calibers plus the 41 mag and 45(acp and lc). If I had to live with just one the rest of my life it would be the 44 special. I cast my own and reload. I can do everything I want to do with a hand gun chambered in 44 special. That would not be as interesting as shooting them all.

I have about six or seven 357s and like them. My first ever handgun was a 27 which I still have 44 years later. Back in the '60s and '70s I'd occasionally shoot my dad's 29, and in the '80s I bought a 629 and had it for a couple of years, but didn't much like the recoil and sold it.

In more recent years I picked up a couple of 500s. I shot them quite extensively and apparently grew to like, indeed embrace, handgun recoil. Then, just a few months ago, I got my first 44 Mag since the 80s, a 629 2 5/8" snub, and love it. I'm now looking closely at getting another one, probably a 5". I can't say that I prefer the 44 to the 357, but definitely am enjoying it of late. And it's hard to beat 45ACP revolvers, great accuracy, low recoil, super fun to shoot. I guess I like them all!!!!
