Who Likes Painting Projects?

I detest painting, I have no feel for it at all. Every art teacher at school agreed. My wife and I did paint the garage in this house, but don't let me near any woodwork and trim that needs doing. I did a front door once, coating it with some kind of protective stain. A carpenter acquaintance said I did a good job, and I must admit it looked great, but I hated every minute of it.

Painting and related work, that a interesting subject. Lets just say I would rather spend my time cleaning out grease traps than paint.

At my age and health its getting to the point I do less and less house work projects. I had my back garage (24x24) painted by a local last Sept and I'm going to call him to give me a price on the exterior of my house. House projects like that are so much easier when the hardest thing I have to do is write out a couple checks.-:D

Now that I'm retired and can take my sweet time,I find it relaxing.I am pretty good at it having picked up on how the pros do it over the years I spent in the trades.

I did a lot of plumbing, drywall and painting when I was a young man working for a contractor who bid a lot on HUD housing repairs. I got fairly good at it. Last time was the inside of the house about 10 years ago. The ceilings are still in good shape but the walls and trim need going over. Every time I paint inside I bless Dad for putting aluminum and vinyl siding all over the exterior. Thank you, Dad!

I'd rather step in the ring and go ten rounds with Mike Tyson. Not that I'd last one round, but thats longer than I would last painting. Most painters I know are drunks and it's not hard to understand why.
Just My rant and 2 cents worth.

I was in every part of the business for 50 years. We did have traditions and standards to uphold.

When my parents built our house in 1948, I don't think aluminum or vinyl siding existed. Our house was covered in wooden shake shingles. Dad and I repainted it a few years later when we built an addition. You haven't lived until you've painted a house covered with shake shingles using paint brushes. You have to wriggle and wriggle and wriggle the brush to get the paint into the fine grooves of each shingle -- bleah! Buying a paint gun for the job would have worked better, but wriggling paint brushes was cheaper, so wriggle we did. ;)
