Does anyone know of a company that makes a leather ankle holster to fit a Smith & Wesson model 66 with 2 1/2 inch barrel? Thanks.

You will most likely have to go the custom route to get an ankle rig for a K frame. Mitch Rosen or Milt Sparks would be the most notable candidates.

If you have never carried in an ankle rig a K frame is likely going to be too heavy, a K frame will run close to 40 ozs. empty. Add six rounds and the weight of the holster to it and you are approching 3 lbs. This is very heavy for an ankle rig.

I wear an ankle holster regularly (M60 or M&P40c), I'm 6'5" around 260; my weight limit for an ankle rig is just shy of 2 lbs. Anything else would be just too much.

Cheers,
Sam

Ya beat me to it.

I have an ankle holster for my 2 1/2" Md 19 and never wear it this way because it's too heavy. I carried a Charter Arms Bulldog every working day in an ankle holster as a back up gun an got so I didn't even notice it but the significantly heavier K Frame Smith isn't the same. The ankle holster I have for the Md19 is leather and very well made but doesn't have any markings on it so I don't know who produced it. It was given to me by another officer who has since passed away. If you still want to carry it in an ankle holster I would strongly recommend a nylon one by Uncle Mike's that has a secondary strap that fastens above your calf and then down to the holster like a woman's garter. I had the Bulldog come loose from my ankle when running but never the strap above my calf. I think it would be even easier for the heavier Smith to come off when running.
