Been several times I wished I had a pair of pliers that would open a gap instead of closing it. Working on a Marlin 336 right now and once again I find that a pair of expanding pliers would be very useful. Does anyone know of a company that makes or sells them. Only thing I can find is snap ring pliers or welding pliers and those won't work.

Funny you should ask. Just yesterday I needed expanding pliers and I vaguely recalled that I had a set (made for snap rings) in my toolbox. I have no recollection as to when, where or why I bought them but I had them when I needed them. There are lots of others on Amazon besides the specific ones I linked to, just search for expanding pliers.

The expanding pliers.com thing looks like what I need. I got a pair on order, we'll see if they are as good as they say.

I sell electrical supplies and when we still sold fixtures we needed expanding pliers for the chandelier chains. May try that route or maybe the fencing section of your hardware store.

Sears has some I think they are called Robo grips.

I'll be darned. Never knew there was something like this. I don't actually need such a tool at this point, but I've bookmarked that site for when I do. Made in the USA, too :)

Didn’t know this posted but it is exactly like the otc 714 I posted.

Got them in the mail Monday and must say I'm impressed. Used them to fix the rifle I was working on, then used them to expand a wire cup holder that was a size to small.

I call them transmission pliers. I use them on snap rings in a 4 speed transmission. I bought a set 50 years ago and still use them.
