The answer is a little tricky. Until 1990 Smith made their own grips. Sadly the company sold off all the equipment. Currently grips for Smith special models are made by Altamont of Illinois. The easiest way to tell if the grips are made by Altamont is to look on the back. The grips will have a code or letter combination routered into the back. Altamont is a good company.
Just be careful, some dealers have been importing grips from China and a couple of other places that use a very soft wood. Those grips do not last long.
