Like Ben Matlock, I love a really good hotdog. Who makes the best you can buy for home cooking, not your favorite hotdog stand like Nathan's and such? I know you can buy Nathan's in stores, but they are not the same either. Most of the likely suspect makers from H and O.M. just aren't cutting it any more. Wonder if some of them may have given into the "pink slime" thing, just wondering?
Had a couple dogs at a Tampa Bay Rays game this summer that were delicious, but I think they came from an Institutional provider like Sysco or such and are not for home sales.
BTW, the only things allowed on any hotdog I eat is chilli, mustard and onions.
What say you hotdog experts? :D

Hard to go wrong with BallPark all beef or Hebrew National.
On a side note, start a shallow cut on the dog with the knife at a bias and roll the dog making a spiral slice around the wiener. Throw it on the grill and not only will it not curl, it will lengthen and look something like a drill bit when cooked. Lots more room for the chili, mustard, cheese and onions.

I admit, I haven't tried the Hebrew National, saw them in the store, but never tried. Main reason is the wife says they give her gas. I guess they'd have to be for me only if I like them. She will only eat the all beef, usually Nathan's, me I like the regular meat dogs too.
BTW, we also do the Boston dinner thing too sometimes..........beans and franks. :D

Another vote for Hebrew National, a quality product that tastes great.

I do always chuckle to myself when I buy a pack, which contains one less hot dog than the other brands usually package. :D

They are well worth it, though.

Same here, but we all know what hot dogs are made of if you ever watched " The Great Outdoors" :)

Hebrew National for me.
The wife prefers Nathan's, which are good.
If you're ever in Mamaroneck NY make sure you get to Walter's Hot Dog Stand on Palmer Ave. Best in the world.

My local butcher makes the only hot dogs I will eat now. I know it might not help you much, but if you can, try to find a local butcher and try them out.

Rachel Ray, who use to be the Ho-Jo (Howard Johnson) girl according to her has a method of making great hot dogs. She takes a little butter and puts the hot dogs in a skillet. She lets them brown the casings for a little while maybe 5-8 minutes then she pours water into the skillet and lets them boil till done. Makes great Hot Dogs.....

Ditto Dave. Kowalski quality.
We went on a fly in fishing trip in Canada several years ago and the pilot was rained in after dropping us off. Had to spend the night, so we took out our genuine Hamtramck built Kowalski natural skin hot dogs and opened a case of Labatts Blue.
That pilot just kept asking if he could have another hot dog and told us "we can't get anything like this over here". I think the fellow had about six of them plus we gave him some to take home.
