Being semi-desperate for a small quantity of reloadable 7.62x39 brass, I ordered 500 from a fellow out in the Las Vegas area who apparently makes a habit of selling it on Gunbroker. I can't complain about the man - he did what he said he would do, and quickly. Great service. I am a little curious about the manufacturer.
The brass has no manufacturer's ID of any kind. If you position the caliber designation ("7.62 x 39") at 6 o'clock, there is a "10" at 10 o'clock and a "13" at 2 o'clock, likely indicating October, 2013 production. Besides the "10" "13" and "7.62x39" there are no other marks. Extractor groove and chamfer at the base of the rim all appear uniform and flash-holes are central in the primer pockets. Primers appear to be not crimped, but there is little radius on the primer pocket, which may make priming a bit tricky. No problems with rims pulling off during sizing or anything like that. Appears to have been fired in guns with large-ish chambers, but not damaged by that.
The brass seems to be of decent quality. When I weigh it, it is about the same as Fiocchi but maybe a bit more uniform. It is about 5-grains lighter than the brass used in Winchester white-box ammo. I think it is going to work fine, but I would like to know who made it. Anyone have any idea?
