I am looking for some back up iron sights to put on a M&P10. Which BUIS do you prefer and why?

I'm stone age. I prefer fixed irons co-witnessed to the optical sight. I use the A2 front and a Troy Fixed Rear Battle Sight.

Why? I'm not into range toys. If the optic dies, I want the BUIS already in place and ready to go.

I have some Magpul MBUIS sights mounted on 45 degree offset mounts for the reason WR Moore stated above. If the optic fails, just rotate the rifle 45 degrees and keep shooting.

What he said...

DSGARMS has them on sale for $140.00 shipped. I got a set this week. These are some nice sights!!!

I'm from the Stone Age too Mr. Moore

"Back-Up" means to me, 'Last Option'. I have great difficulty hoping a Last Option that is either polymer or fragile in design will be available or accurate if needed. It seems as with everything else, you get what you pay for... TROY, in my opinion makes an excellent and damn strong iron sighting product.
I have had my eye on these http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/sights/sight-sets/rapid-transition-sights-sku100006162-41357-77831.aspx DUECK DEFENSE Rapid Transition Sights for awhile now and am saving my $$. The feedback on these little jewels appear to be golden. Compare them to the ones shown above. I could justify another $100 for the DUECK's.
Just my humble opinion

I don't run iron sights on the Big Smith. IMO, it needs a scope.

I'm not sure what everyone does with their rifles; I shoot things in the field and woods, a lot.

MagPul BUIS are polymer but are anything but fragile. However, is not a good idea to mount anything polymer to the gas block.

I have enough confidence in my optics that I don't use back up sights on the Big Smith. Don't want the extra weight, complexity or cost

Troys, Yankee Hill, and Midwest Industries are all good. I prefer them to any of the magpul plastic sights, no experience with the newer magpul buis. I want to like the Daniel Defense fixed sights, but I seem to experience a lot of glare problems with their small apperature.

Dueck Defense rapid transition sights. Nice and sturdy without getting in the way. I don't really trust plastic and/or flip ups. Besides there are times when the iron sights are simply the better tool for the job and you can just pivot the gun and use them instantly which is a huge bonus.

I am the same way about the Matech buis. It works great for me unless lighting makes it useless.
