Random thoughts...

IF General Patton could have had his way, there would NEVER have been an Iron Curtain... No Berlin Wall, NO Soviet CCCP Empire.

Most likely NO Korean War, er a, I mean Police Action...

No Viet Nam...

ETC... ETC... ETC...

Who is the 2nd from left? (The only one smiling)
He doesn't quite fit the picture.
I should recognize him, being a Lt. Gen.

McArthur and Nimitz would round it out nicely.

Many newer books seem quite hard on MacArthur. My grandfather served for him in Korea and always loved him. I smoke a corn cob pipe on occasion, and when I do I always get the urge to put on some Aviator shades and say "I shall return" when leaving a place.

Did the guy 2nd on the left fall asleep :) ?

Looks like veterans day at the local nursing home!!!! :D :D

I kid I kid!

He does look like he's watching a different show than the rest of them.

If I didn't already recognize them I might think it was the Mods looking at the 'Annoyed with' thread.
We all know that great apes like to wear helmets.

Yes, we had some honest to goodness butt kickers in that war.
Of course, everyone else supported them. That makes a huge difference.
There's quite a few good ones now, too.
And that's as far as I will go with it.

Very nice, Steve! :D

I certainly think Raymond Spruance belongs in that lineup. So does Theodore Roosevelt Jr., though he was only a brigadier if I recall correctly. And though he wasn't yet a general, I'd add Matt Ridgway.

Personally, I think we've some pretty darn good ones these days too, to help us with "the troubles." One or two have proved to have feet of clay, but on the whole, I think our general officers are a very capable and, in some cases, exemplary bunch. They fight a completely different kind of war than the guys in the photo did. Not taking away anything from any of them.

They all put a face on the words "We sleep safely in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would harm us." *

*Variously misattributed to George Orwell or Winston Churchill.
