Concealed weapons, shooting ranges. Rep. Keith Kidwell, a Beaufort County Republican who leads the right-wing Freedom Caucus group within the House GOP, filed two bills to loosen gun laws. House Bill 5 would allow almost anyone who's 18 or older to carry a concealed handgun in North Carolina without needing to pass tests on firearm safety and accuracy, in addition to other current requirements. House Bill 9 would exempt shooting ranges from all local government rules and ordinances. It would also allow anyone to shoot guns on their property without getting in trouble with city or state officials as long as they take "reasonable care to prevent a projectile from crossing the bounds of the property."

"It will be "just like the wild west" and "blood will flow in the streets".

Just kidding, there has been no public safety issue and nothing of the sort has occurred in Florida.

Besides the permitless carry issue, this portion of the original post also applies in Florida:

"It would also allow anyone to shoot guns on their property without getting in trouble with city or state officials as long as they take "reasonable care to prevent a projectile from crossing the bounds of the property."

Florida law allows you to have a shooting range in your backyard ONLY if you are in a residential area where housing density is LESS than one residence per acre, or if you are in an area that is not primarily residential. So, not your typical suburban neighborhood.

See Florida statute 790.15, paragraph 4.

Nice idea, but not expecting your governor to sign it should it get to his desk.

While I am pro 2nd, does the fact almost ANYONE with zero safety training can slap on a holster or stick their firearm in their pants and walk the streets. Please remember common sense is no longer required to live and walk the streets. Not to mention no accuracy testing, this is why people think they need 25 rounds in their handguns, spray and pray.
I do understand both sides of the coin, just something to think about.
Let the bashing begin, the first thing I am expecting to hear is "shall not be infringed".

I am in total agreement with you about the no training aspect of this bill

Yes; see Florida Statute 790.15 paragraph 4 , but read the entire section, particularly the loophole provided by sub paragraph (b)

This subsection does not apply:

(a) To a person lawfully defending life or property or performing official duties requiring the discharge of a firearm;

(b) If, under the circumstances, the discharge does not pose a reasonably foreseeable risk to life, safety, or property; or

(c) To a person who accidentally discharges a firearm.

As of March 2024, 29 states currently allow the permitless carry of concealed weapons in public.

Countless numbers of people in those 29 states are carrying loaded, concealed weapons in public without the requirement of a permit, background check, safety training, or accuracy testing.

And yet, we are still waiting for the bullet ridden bodies to stack up in the street.

House Bill 9 is a questionable idea, and will not pass.
If passed, it will be challenged in the courts and will become a dead issue.
I’m the biggest Second Amendment guy there is, and even I might be against it.
If I had a close neighbor 200 or 300 feet away that insisted on sighting in his 30-06 at 7:00 AM while I may be still be trying to sleep after working half the night I would not be happy.

More than half the states now have some form of permitless carry. It has not been a problem. Going on 8 years in my state now. Zero problems.

Why would the other states be any different?
