Who's really ready for the collapse of civilization?

So if you can't get you medical treatment due to the collapse of civilization, what will happen?

I know we like to talk about zombie guns and such, and food stockpiles and water and bug out bags, and so on, but what about things like medication and CPAP machines? What if the power is off, what if you can't get insulin or kidney dialysis, or whatever?

I've got a CPAP machine, so I figure I'll probably have real trouble sleeping until the general bad conditions cause me to lose enough weight that I don't have that problem.

There are fun things like insulin, withdrawal from anti-depressants, etc, etc. etc.

I do take a blood thinner. I already had a pulmanary embelism is why I am on it. That could be a problem.
I will say I am not at all worried about myself on a personnal basis, but am for my family and others standpoint. I am at 68 and lived a full life, and not afraid of death, or fighting for my life to survive.

I have had to deal with this in another context. We know that there are some health problems that are going to result in death. We know that the dying will pose issues and when dead, pose other problems.

Keeping spare meds is a smart call, as well as back-up power. These can help you get over modest social speed bumps. A collapse of civilization is an entirely different matter.

I'm not worried about me, but more my wife. And if we have young kids, then what? If it was just me, I would take my chances where ever, but it isn't just me anymore.

No more Prozac? Eh. It just takes the edge off. I'd just be angrier. Come the apocalypse, that might be a good thing I'd think.

I'd miss toothpaste more. Having to brush my teeth with a twig or boar bristles in a piece of bone and some lye soap is going to be unpleasant.

frankly I am looking forward to a change

First thing I plan on doing is arming myself well, and taking EVERY 24hr. Allegra in the tri-state area from every pharmacy I can.

After that, run the generator, kick back, enjoy some canned peaches, and catch up on DVD's.

Prozac, Schmozac!
Anyone ever heard of a Martini?
Why do I have firearms you may ask.
Answer, so I can acquire Vodka and ice.
Till I no longer can, civilization has not ended officially.
(EDIT) On further consideration, I've decided that if civilization "officially ends" I'll start smoking again. How you may ask?
See line #3 above...

We've had this problem before in our part of the country. Hurricanes hit, power is down for days. People on home oxygen run into big problems. We have had to go around with portable generators to help people with things like this. I bet Caj Lawyer has several good stories about Katrina.

BTW- I thought civilization had already collapsed.

Well my parents have a generator on their house, a well and plenty of room so I'm loading up the car and heading home if SHTF. I'm on a small dosage of meds for thyroid but other than that I'm fairly healthy. Matter of fact, before I was on it the only problem I experienced was a "lump" in my throat. As for zombies, well, between dad and I, we've got them covered.

I'm sure it would be a real pain, but assuming I'm not murdered by roving hordes and my well doesn't run dry, I honestly think I'd be healthier without so much "civilization". Most all my health issues would improve after a few months of forced calorie reduction.

"I'm not afraid of dying.....I just don't want to be there when it happens"....

As far as meds and medical devices go, my immediate family would be just fine. My Mother and my neighbor wouldn't do so well, though. Mom's on asthma meds, neighbor has a C-Pap, insulin, etc. We can muddle through with Mom, but I'm not sure what to do about neighbor. During the ice storm last winter, I took my small generator over there at night so that he could sleep, but that's not a permanent solution, and I have no idea what to do about insulin.

I have a backup plan.....the taking over my local Costco
