I can see the panic and profiteering on 20-30rd or more mags. But even 5 and 10 round mags are nearing $100! There's no ban proposed on them.

Why are they being priced so high?

because the law is making people buy them...if you have to buy them then the really greedy people are going to try to make whatever they can..they have a customers that dont have a choice and they will abuse this..wait till we see the price of forced health insurance!!

Basic rules of supply and demand. When supply is high and demand is low, prices are low. When demand is high and supply is low, prices are high.

1. The BS that got passed in NY state caused the run on 10rd mags.

2. The BS that BHO is pushing fir from the Oval Office is causing a run on anything firearms related.

3. The PT Barnum Rule: "There's a sucker born every minute".

The prices will only go as high as customers are willing to pay, and panicky people will pay anything. Customers always have a choice. Either choose to buy it or not buy it.

I wish I bought. 1K PMags at wholesale in June 2012. What were they, $10?

$10 X 1,000 = $10,000

Sell them for $40 each which is a bargain during the panic.

$40,000 - $10,000 = $30,000 profit.

I'm not sure where you are seeing 10 rounders for $100, but... Ten rounders are primarily targeted for sale in the compliant states like NY. As in every other state, half a years worth of sporting rifles have been sold in the past month. They usually sell with 1 ten round mag, and all of those new owners are now looking for additional mags. Why own a semi-auto, quick detachable mag rifle if you have only 1 mag? I have 4, I can imagine many new owners wanting to buy at least that many.

While the gouging and hoarding of 20s and 30s has to do with an uncertain future for those mags, hi pricing on 10s would have to do with needing them now, a need obviously not anticipated by any manufacturer. Tens are all gone, so those new compliant state owners have only one option, and that is the 5s.

I should also add that a person must have lost all sense of reality to pay $100 for a 10 rd mag!

A person must have lost all sense of reality before paying $100 for ANY mag.....

I'd sell the bloody gun before I'd ever do that.

Fear is what is driving this, plain and simple. If people are this affraid of what is happening we are in deep trouble.

I find many people these days seem to have more money than brains.

It would be very easy for me to fall into the forty dollar 10 round mag trap, I live in NJ and have a couple 12 round mags that I expect to become illegal sooner than later. I'll wait for now but it's tempting to put a potential problem to bed. Meanwhile, I am not advocating any illegal activity but nobody has ever asked to look at one of my magazines. Who and how would anybody know unless I filled one and they counted bangs?

Once there is law against them they will be looking at them.

Been watching the auction sites since the madness began after the shooting. The price hike on 10rd mags was going strong long before the NY bill got passed. Even 5rd mags are up there. And NOBODY has ANY AR mags in stock. No 5rd , no 10rd , no 20rd , no 30rd , etc.

Of course , some people are listing 20 & 30 round mags as 10rd , but you caqn tell by their length.

I'm talking actual short length 10rd and those 5rd mags that have the solid plastic extension.

added; just checked and theres a listing for 2-10rd mags up to $177!

Well I guess I'm lucky, I received my (5) 20 rounders last week from Classic Firearms and I have another (20) 30 rounders on back order from different distributors, so I guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Full moon clips will be next!!! Glad I already got mine.

And I've got a bunch of half-moons for when the full moons are illegal!! If I don't use clips for my M1917, does it qualify as a single shot because I have to punch out the empties? Better get those 45 auto rim cases.

I'd like to find one or two extra mags for a M&P22 pistol, but I'm not going to pay the $40 ea that I saw recently. I'll wait out the hysteria.

Not sure how NY is responsible for a run on 10 round mags.

The new New York law puts the max capacity at 7 rounds. 10 rounds mags will become illegal at some point in time, assuming the state actually gave their citizens some finite amount of time to dispose of their existing magazines.

Why so upset about high mag and ammo prices?
I have plenty of both and hope to cash in a bit at next weeks gun show.

I was ahead of the curve 4 years ago, so this time around is no surprise.
I didn't but 1k of Pmags though. Wish I had.

I've stayed and been way ahead for years. Before all the "hoopla" I added a few new AR's and glad I beat that rush. Already had a pile of mags on hand from my first AR. Just sitting back and looking for some good deals coming up once supply over-runs demand again.

Just be careful of the scammers that will eventully raise their ugly heads. I remember back in the post 94ban there were people taking group purchase deposits for pre ban mags that were supposed to be shipped from overseas in plants from Austria. They were very convicing with phoney documentation & bills of lading. They were collecting the $up front from most people & I recall one person had almost amassed $50K . That one was caught, arrested, jailed and had to pay back restitution after several years per court order.

Problem is... These ya-hoos who would spend that crazy cash are just waking up! It's not about mag limits. It's about controlling the masses for there domination over us... If I have to haves magazine limit, they should have term limits!

Plenty of ammo, plenty of mags, all the firearms I've been itching for!
I'm just sitting on the sidelines watching the madness and taking notes.
I've got my list of retailers I will never buy from again (Anti 2A moves, price gouging, etc) and I will support those who have supported us.
I really feel sorry for the mental capacity of anyone who pays $100 for any "legal" mag.
