Why do I want a 39-2?

Everything loeman said!;)
I wouldn't sell or trade mine for all the tea in China!
I boned myself several years ago and left a nickel plated version go to my doctor! I'm still kicking myself for that one and I've yet to see another one since!

By all means, get a nice one -

1. Great history
2. Sharp looks
3. Ergonomic
4. Reliable
5. Still useful

I got this one as new in the box; it's one of my favorite Smiths.

Have always wanted one.......

Have owned 3 or 4 over the years.......

They have set in the safe over the years; especially after the introduction of the 3913/6906 in 1989...............

Have traded 3 or 4 over the years..........

Have at least 3 or 4 extra magazines for a 39/639.....................

Currently would buy another if I could find one (639)...........

What more can I say.................................. :D

39-2 Perfection

With a pretty good sized collection of semi-autos to shoot, I'd have to say that none feel as good in my hand or point as well as my 39-2. The ergonomics are superb. My SIG P225 comes in second.
This is a pistol that is a pleasure to shoot, field strip, and just generally contemplate. I've not considered using mine as an EDC piece, choosing rather one of my third gen S&W's or a SIG.
I honestly cannot say that anything S&W (or anyone else) has built - approaches the eye-pleasing dimensions and scale, and mechanical function of this iconic design. It is the grandpappy of all of the more common 3rd GEN pistols. I believe it would be nearly impossible to built this pistol again, at the same levels of quality, for much less than a thousand bucks a copy.

Often figured we would be paying close to a grand for these series 39s or 3913s today. Sure applies to rifles and shotguns with black walnut stocks and high polish finishes of yesterday. I know my old Rem. 700 that is still built today has tripled from the $325 I paid 32 years back.

Yes you should.

1. They are good guns....period.
2. Fit and finish are excellent.
3. They are historically significant.
4. They can still be found at fair prices.
5. They are the most beautiful S&W pistol ever (IMO).

Here's my 39-2 that I bought in a pawn shop less than two years ago for $350.

Double like

I picked up a real nice 39-2 a few months back for $ 470 plus tax .
I have already turned down an offer of $ 600 . You just dont find 39s very often anymore, especialy as nice as this one.
These are beautiful guns . I agree, the best looking semi auto pistol
S & W ever made. I already have a 639 that I bought about 12 years ago for $ 300 . Although I am primarily a revolver guy ,These two are keepers for sure.

Well, everyone above said about all I can say. I've had several 9 MM semi-autos and I've sold all of them but the 39-2. It fills the bill for me in fit and finish. I love the size and feel in my hand. I have never had any issues with the one I bough used. Mine is a 1976 and I still shoot it every month at the range.

About Gunbroker: I feel that the prices there are way too high. I think that this is due to the "national" audience they have. What I mean is; a 39-2 in your area may be worth $350 but in some other area it's worth $450. the people in the $450 area will bid the gun up above the $350 worth just because their area values the gun more. What I'm trying to say is: look locally. Look in all the local gun shops and just keep looking, I will bet you will find one for a reasonable price. parts are still available for them, (some) and springs are readily available from Wolf's.

You will not be unhappy with the 39-2. It's a historic pistol and to me, that's worth way more than the third generation pistols. They will never be "historical". They are just plain old production pistols that are slight improvements from one another. They are like iphones, everyone has one and they are all the same. The model 39-2 is historic and you won't see another one everytime you go to the range.

iAmmo has a listing for M39-2's right now.....typical with these guns they will come with repatriation markings on them.....but to me thats no different than LE agency markings....shooter grade to be sure...my 3913NL came from there via Israeli police and is my guilt free EDC ;)

Thanks. I had checked them out, they only have the grade c in stock. I certainly don't need or want to pay LNIB, but something more purdy than their grade c.

I love my 39-2 Now looking for a shoulder holster for it Can't seem to find a Galco etc that it fits snugly and Ideas?

Shoulder holster

Thanks for the idea. I prefer a horizantal draw holster
Seems like no one ever carried this in a shoulder holster in its day
