I want one too. Super long waiting list, and the Gunbroker guys know this and mark 'em up.

Some of the factory finishes make me scratch my head (e.g. digital camo), but hey if they are selling so what?

I have owned 2. All I can say is amazing. You won't regret getting one. Truly a 1911 with the power of the 357.

A friend of mine bought an early model B. about 1986. He hand made a border patrol style holster and dual magazine pouches for duty. It was accurate and fun to shoot. Recoil was manageable and the muzzle blast was on par with that of a four inch revolver. It was funny because he was 5' 8" about 180 lbs. the Coonan made him look like a little kid with his Dads gun on. I wanted one but couldn't afford the 750 he paid for it.

A friend here in Sweden had one for sale.

I looked at one yesterday at a gun shop. very similar to the one in the post above and brand new in box, they ordered for their shelf. I held it for a minute and made him put it back before I bought it :) Very nice gun, and I am a fan of the .357 and was looking at 1911's. The price was a big factor. I cant justify spending that much money on a single gun yet. They wanted $1500-1800 for it. I ended up getting a Ruger 1911. Looking forward to shooting it today.

It's the only 1911 I would consider buying, as I don't care for most of them. I was researching them a while ago. Their ad, on their website, doesn't pull any punches: "Looking for your first pistol? This isn't it". I probably will acquire one, sometime in the next few years.

I don't ever see my self carrying a 1911.....way too used to TDA...and am comfortable with that.....got the range .45acp thing covered......just something special to me about the .357 mag...........and ya gotta love that quote from their website:D

I had a Coonan Model B for a while. Coonan makes a quality gun but a 1911 it is not, in spite of the similar appearance, it is larger than a 1911 with a completely different trigger system. If you want an actual 1911 with .357 mag power look at one in 9x23 Winchester, you've got a 125gr Silvertip pushing 1450+fps out of a 5" 1911.

Does anyone make a factory 9x25 Dillon 1911 (STI maybe)? Add about 250fps to that. Of course, tremendous noise, muzzle blast, and recoil too. The juice might not be worth the squeeze.

what advantages would a .357 mag semi offer over a 10mm semi other than caliber consolidation? Lots of choices for 10mm, OK maybe not "lots" but more than there are for .357 and I would bet the rimless would be more reliable feeding than the rimmed .357.
No dog in this fight other than a familiarity with G20 I had back in the day along with my first .357, a Taurus something or other .357

Not that I'm aware of but I've never looked for one.

Careful loading has led to guys getting 1500fps or more from 158gr bullets in their Coonans (within spec, no cylinder gap to rob velocity). That's 790 ft-lbs. This is pretty much in line with max spec 10mm 155gr. Of course, a G20 will have 15+1 on tap while the Coonan will have half that. But I'm sure it's just like how 1911 guys won't touch G21s or G30s even though they hold more ammo.

There's more to consider than capacity - ergonomics, trigger, accuracy, concealability - are all areas where a 1911 outshines the big Glocks. And, the Coonan, while larger than a 1911, shares some of those attributes as well. More bullets doesn't always equal a better choice.

And others would argue the other way. It is what it is.

Hypothetical situation. You're about to head into a gunfight (the old O.K. Corral type). You can take an older man with a S&W Model 10 he's had his whole adult life, and has shot it countless times. You've seen him consistently draw and hit a 10 ring at 15 yards in less than two seconds. The other choice is a younger guy who just bought a competition-spec Glock 34 with a Leupold red dot and three 33rnd magazines loaded with the craziest +P+ JHPs he could find at the gun store. You know he's never shot his Glock since he got it yesterday.

(never mind the whole "don't bring just a pistol when you know you're going to get in a fight" deal)

Which guy are you going to bring? It's still about about training and ability, not gear.
