Why does my 5906 do this?

When I chamber a round and then remove the magazine a round falls out after the magazine is removed. Or the round is hanging almost out of the mag. A round is chambered, but the next round in the mag gets pulled out too. Doesn't matter how many rounds are in the mag. When hand cycling rounds though gun everything works fine. Is this something that happens with a 5906?

You need an new magazine spring? That sounds like the problem to me, although you might want a new follower too, what color plastic is it?

Magazine follower is orange.

It's not uncommon with any semi-auto, sometimes more so with certian ammo. The next round down in the mag is pulled forward againest the feedramp by the chambered round, as you pull the mag out the bullet nose catches and tips the round out of the mag.

exactly what is happening. I wondered if the extra long feed ramp on the 5906 is why it does this more than on a glock, beretta, ruger, etc. I was planning on throwing a new mag spring in and maybe some new followers too.

it's normal as far as I know with s&w mags, the mecgars I have don't do that.
wolf has extra-power mag springs for those s&w mags. I installed in all of mine.

That happened on my 3913 last weekend... I though I was just going crazy.

Happens constantly on my 3914. Oftens times the next round pops out of the magazine and falls out the bottom of the gun. The problem isn't as bad on my 5946. Sometimes the top round is pulled out slightly. I never had the round actually come out like on the 3914.

Just about all Smith 3rd generations will do this. It is a trade-off for the fact that your pistol has such a well designed feed angle that it will actually feed empty cases.

Make sure you are using the latest version of your particular magazine, as it will reduce the occurences.

I never had this happen when I was firing my 4006.
