Several years ago, I bought a 15-3 with 2" barrel off Gunbroker. The serial number dates it to 1971. It has a pinned heavy barrel and the top of the frame is un-tapered as it should be. It appears all original, with a nice, even, factory-looking blue. It had a .400 serrated trigger, which I suspect was installed after it left the factory, because according to Supica and Nahas, the 2" models had the .312" smooth triggers. My revolver has no adjustable trigger stop which, again according to Supica and Nahas, should be present. Of course, the trigger stop could have been removed.

I recently noticed that the chambers are not recessed. What gives? Was the cylinder likely replaced at some point?

Any thoughts will be appreciated.

Only Magnum calibers and rimfires were recessed.

Your Model 15-3 is a 38 special caliber and the only revolvers with recessed cylinders are Magnum and 22LR rounds.

Well, that explains it. It had never occurred to me, but all the Smiths I had before buying this m15 were either magnums or rimfires!

Thanks very much!

The Fella's ^^^^^ are correct.......... never seen a .38 Special of ANY model with recessed chambers. That was for the Magnums and they discontinued that anyway to save some $$$$.
