The lakes/rivers, the landscape and the summer produce. If you stay away from a few cities, it's fabulous!

Here's tonights dinner...
Cheeseburgers on local pretzel buns with lettuce, fresh farm tomatoes, onion and some condiments. An ear of local sweet corn on the side... The Mrs enjoyed it too, with a Bell's Hopslam! I'll tuck her in later!

the wife and i would drive up to Wynn Schullers in benton Harbor for a lunch or The Heston bar for a great evening meal.Camped at St Egnace several times Took many vacations with the children along lake mich.
So many memories ,Frankenmooth ,Travers City,PawPaw,Marshal, many other places

I grew up in Michigan.Moved to Tennessee 30 years ago.I am in ludington now for a visit. My wife brought me here for a short visit. My kids used to live here with my ex.I grew up in Detroit but have always loved this part of state.

For many years 14 of us from my golf league, including my late brother, would spend a week at Fletcher's Floodwater in Alpena gorging on pan fish, Northern Pike, Bass and beer.

Some of the best times of my life. Lovely surroundings and lovely people.

It was the first place that I saw two mailboxes on a single pole placed one above the other. Snow gets deep up yonder.

I remember driving across the UP. 10,000 pine trees to each person, and not much else! A kind of "twofer": The view was of heaven, and otherwise boring as hades!

Funny you say that...
I've received this "offer" from my natural gas provider several times. They want me to pay extra to support their 3,700 acre "forestry project" in Luce County (in the U.P.). The Upper Peninsula covers over 10.4 million acres and has more trees than you can shake a stick at! They must think their customers are idiots...

More thread drift...

Now that is a Scam.
You think that's bad...

Check out this "offer" I received from my electric utility. 100% of my electricity will be wind generated if I voluntarily pay extra, but my neighbors who don't get with the program will only have 15% of theirs come form renewable sources. I phoned them and asked, "Please explain how you can do that, when we're all hooked to the same power line?"
I was told that I just don't understand...

All the electrons generated by renewable resources are marked with little "DTE" initials. Your meter looks for these initials and only lets electrons with them through to your house, while your neighbor's meter only lets 15% of them through.

And if you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you in Mackinaw. :D

If you weren't a moderator there would be 6 pages of comments ripping you apart for not fleeing to a free state.
Always wanted to visit the UP...maybe someday.

We're Mackinac Island fans…..

When I was a very young man, my grandparents had a cottage on one of Michigan's many lakes. We were staying there and Dad and I went fishing early one morning. We caught a mess of blue gills, which aren't very big but sure are tasty. Within an hour of catching, they were fried along with some eggs and toast for breakfast. It was the most memorable meal I've ever had! :D
