Canadian bacon is just thinly sliced ham and not “real” bacon? What do the British call “bacon”? Is there some correlation between Canadian bacon and British bacon?

Canadian bacon, or back bacon, is a different cut than bacon. Canadian bacon is cut from the back of the pig, while bacon is cut from the belly. Canadian bacon is most often sold here as a round, already cooked (or smoked) slice of meat, while bacon is usually found as a long strip of uncooked meat (although you can find already cooked, microwave ready bacon.)
Canadian bacon is much leaner than bacon, but (IMO) bacon is much tastier! Ymmm...bacon.

I don't know the correct, technical, answer, but when I was young there used to be a
market, in a small northern Michigan town where my grandparents lived,
that sold beef bacon, which, in that area, was commonly called "Canadian Bacon."
Over the years, while traveling in Canada, any bacon I had over there was
more "ham looking" so I think the beef bacon that I had as a youngster,
called "Canadian Bacon," was probably just a local term.
GKC & I were posting at the same time so a real
answer was forthcoming when I wrote the above.

Canadian bacon is bacon, bacon is bacon, panchetta, which is cured but not smoked, is bacon. Turkey bacon is not bacon.
That's for darn sure! It's not salty and fatty and it is good for you...the exact opposite of real, yummy bacon.
I've always maintained that if God intended me to eat healthy foods, he would have made lettuce and broccoli taste like bacon and chicken fried steak!
Brits call pork belly bacon, "streaky bacon" ala, "Two Fat Ladies".

Spot on. Back bacon is usually labelled as such and is the preferred style in England.
Then there is "gammon" in England. That's a ham steak in the US.

A slice of British bacon is about 2-3 times the width of American bacon and about twice as thick.
But here's the rub; they only cook it half as much. So when it comes on your plate with the traditional English Breakfast of eggs, baked beans, baked tomatoe, bangers (that's sausage, well small hot dogs to us - but that's a different thread), toast with marmalade, strong coffee...I'm getting lost here...anyway; you have to ask them to cook the bacon extra for you. They won't mind.
What have I left off that English breakfast list? I know I forgot something. It's a colossal amount of food...oh, little rounds of cheese...

, and it really shouldn't be called bacon at all. It's the choicest cut of pork, the eye of the loin, exceptionally lean and no waste at all. It's smoked, fully cooked, just warm and serve.
Vermont maple cured, now that is some really good bacon.

As a Texan who lived 16 years in Australia, my source (the missus) says wartime sausages were bolstered with water, and when cooked would explode ( minor ka pow) and still, on the steel plate that aussies call a barby, do the things pop if not punctured. Often the sheilas will slice their bangers to avoid the hot spray. Jimmy deans don't pop like that....

Speaking of bacon has anyone ever had Kunzlers(i think thats the correct spelling) Bacon from Lancaster Pa. It comes in 5 and 11 pound packages and wow is it good stuff.Lean and thick it cooks up nice & crispy

I ordered a pizza over the phone and wanted Canadian bacon on it along with mushrooms. It was delivered with bacon bacon. Still good though.

I was told by a Brit once that they're called 'bangers' because when you cook sausage they pop or 'bang' when they're done.

In all the times I have been to England and New Zealand, I have never ever been served a piece of fully cooked bacon! As for English sausages, which are also popular in NZ, they have the texture of a baggy full of bisquick. Yuck!
