But no one can invent a cloth window wipe that will take everything off the glass including water spots, leave them crystal clear and streak free! You know sort of like a Lead-Away cloth.....
Been cleaning windows on my Motorhome,,,,,Ihate cleaning windows!

My Dad was a pressman for a few newspapers. He brought home paper that was scrap but useful to us. He also brought home the paper "Hot off the Press".

I heard about the news paper thing and tried it with both printed and unprinted paper.

You need windex or some such with out the printed paper to get anywhere.

With the printed paper you got some cleaning but streaking. More so on the outside exposed glass.

Window cleaner is ammonia based. Back then Ink was veggie based.

I remember the slime coating Dads shoes used to get.

I've had good results using Eagle 1, brand glass cleaner with newspapers, followed up by a final wipe down with a microfiber cloth.

I use Invisible Glass from the auto parts store. Recommended to me by an auto detailer friend. Best stuff I've used.

Believe it or not, chrome polish will remove water spotting on auto glass.

Yes, I know...I was like "yeah, right" when I heard about it...think I read about it in a 4x4 magazine.

Since I had some chrome polish on hand...the cheap stuff, comes in a metal can for a few bucks at any auto parts store...I tried it. Much to my surprise, it worked.

Wouldn't hurt to try...and it won't damage your glass.

For Sub freezing temperatures, Try blue windshield washer fluid and towel or paper of your choice. Works on cars and houses(when temp is below 20 degrees F).

Rain-X, keeps them from fogging up, including the bathroom mirror!

More often than not it isn't what you wipe the window with it is what cleaner you are using that makes the difference.
I bought some Hope's Perfect Glass 100% streak free glass and mirror cleaner. I bought it at Lowe's. This product really does work great on mirrors. No streaks and no having to keep wiping it get it clean. I haven't tried it on a window yet.

I was a prepress tech for 20 years, did all the Bay Area papers + many Northern California ones too.

Learned to fold up a hat.

Knew an owner that got mad about something and kicked a paper butt - broke basically the front end of his foot. LOL!

I did the cameras, film processors, separation gear and plate exposure and processing equipment.

Small world.

Used to get steamed when election time came around and I had to service someone that was printing the anti gun stuff. Jobs laying on the tables full of lies. Grrrrr!

Microfiber cloths. They're very inexpensive (now days) and nothing works better. That's what i use to clean my eye glasses, and I won't tolerate even the most obscure imperfection.

Newspaper never worked for me, either. The soy based inks they use today smears and gets on everything. Plus, it's made of recycled god-only-knows-what and can contain abrasive compounds that will scratch glass.

Vinegar in a spray bottle and micro soft towels or newsprint is what my wife read and tried. It works.

The white spots are calcium and magnesium from your water.

Don't have any magic cure but I wash my car drying towels without any detergent and it seems to reduce the smearing. Water spots can be tough and have had some success with vinegar.

Stoner's Invisible Glass is all I use on vehicle windows. If you remember vehicle glass being easier to clean way back when, your mind isn't deceiving you. Vehicle glass has changed over the years, due to safety and manufacturing requirements (for curved surfaces). In addition, off gassing from plastic parts leaves a film on the inside of windows that can be a biotch to remove. Motor homes and RV's aren't exempt from these problems either.

Stoner's, available at most auto supply stores, is designed to remove the film left by off gassing, and use of it with a micro fiber clothes, along with a clean paper towel for final polishing has always worked well for me.

Edit: The spots you see on auto glass is caused by chemicals drying on the surface. They can be a real problem to remove, which is why you should make sure the glass and mirrors are dried thoroughly after washing before the water has a chance to dry - especially by direct sunlight. I've been successful in removing them using metal polish, but it's still a lot of work.

I must be handicap in this area. I've tried news paper, invisible glass, streak free, no streak, liquid glass cleaner, foam glass cleaner....bla bla bla...I can't ever not have streaks, especially on the inside of my windshield. I can spend hours cleaning and it will look good until you look at it from a different light or a different angle and see a billion streaks!!!

The best glass cleaner I have used even beats Stoner's Invisible Glass, and is safe on plastics, which IG is not- SprayWay Foaming Glass Cleaner in the classic baby blue on white can. You can safely use it on the dash and to spot clean cloth too.

Now, for chemical and acid rain spots on the outside glass, use a clay bar! Yes, the same clay bars made to clean paint.

I've used them all! Right now I'm using McGuires. It's doing a decent job and it smells good too!
But I'm still looking for that one miracle cloth

Try using winded and then wiping with newspaper. Don't know why but it works with no streaking.

I fully agree. I hate cleaning the inside windshield and it is not easy to do. Last week there was a post about chores defined by sex, so it is funny that I am saying that I clean it myself once in a while but am fully guilty of asking my husband to do it more because I hate doing it so much.

I keep a terrycloth towel for inside the windshield.

Like a poor movie, if you're not looking for Shakespeare, you won't be disappointed. I don't mind if the window isn't perfect, close is OK.

Stoner's Invisible Glass will get rid of the film. If it's really bad, might need to wash them twice though.


One other thing not mentioned is after you get your windshield clean, apply RainX to the outside. The stuff is amazing and I've been using it for decades. You can drive 70 mph through a downpour without any wipers with the stuff applied.

Vinegar instead of water to get rid of water spots, if that does not work, go to your toolbox, grab the biggest hammer, and hit that window as hard as you can, till everything looks bright and clear, if you want it to stay clear forever!! Do not replace it with another window.
