Why is the Shield so cheap?

Sadly that's not happening with some outlets trying to make $200 profit on these guns. Too bad they can't dictate the selling price. $399 or you don't get any more. GARY

I paid $479 today for a 9mm Shield, and if I had not there were 20 people on a list who would have. Supply and demand. Its what makes the world go around.

I'm wondering why this is even being discussed considering how hard they are to find and the inflated prices being charged.

The whole point is S&W sells the guns to the the stores for $325 so they can be competitive with the Ruger LC9, & other slim 9 & 40 guns, & still make a decent profit. Then the stores go & ruin it by jacking up the prices $150-$200 so the selling price is not what S&W planned. If I were the boss at S&W, I would either dictate that the gun not be sold for more than MSRP, or charge the offending stores $75 more per gun. But my real confusion is understanding why buyers would pay more than MSRP for anything. Locally, they are being sold for MSRP, as the owner wants people to remember he didn't rape customers after the scare. And there are plenty of users on this forum stating they paid less than MSRP. Yeah I know, supply, demand, & GREED. GARY

Some manufacturers may dictate the lowest advertised price, but I've rarely seen one limit the mark up. Personally, I wouldn't pay more than MSRP for any item unless I just absolutely had to have it. Then it's my own fault for being suckered into paying more. Most manufacturers set MSRP so there's plenty of margin for themselves, wholesaler and retailer.

I heard magpul got pretty pissed at certain companies that hiked prices to 50$+ each for Pmags during the beginning of panic v2.0
