Why no 4" 648?

Inquiring minds want to know. Why didn't they ever produce a K-frame .22 mag 4" in stainless?. It would seem to easy to produce a 4" 648, just chop the barrel down. One of the new Mountain guns in .22mag would be nice too. Has .22mag gone out of popularity with the revolver crowd? Please save your arguments for or against the caliber for another thread in the ammo forum.

Apparently it has. I have a 48-3 6". I wish it was a 4".

The 4" 22 WMR might not be popular? Looks like S&W even discontinued the 4" model 48 recently. Glad I picked one up along with the 6" version recently.

I just picked up a Model 48-7 last weekend. Took it to the range yesterday. It's is a joy to shoot although it sure has a sharp report. You want to make sure you have ear protection on. But it was a fun time at the range.
