Why the .45 ACP in a revolver?

Great thread and great pics, folks !!

I love my S&W 1917 .45 DA, nice versatile round. It is the gun that made me fall in love with S&W's around 12 yrs ago. I met a woman who inherited an estate from a 97 yr. old man whom she took care of. After I bought some furniture and coins, she asked if I would be interested in a WWI revolver. I had no idea what it was worth, so I made an offer. I now know that I got a great deal on it. I even got the fellow's gun journal that show's the name, address and date from when he bought my gun in 1943... I enjoyed that part.

Along with it, I got a shopping bag full of old ammo, tins with gun patches and solvents, billy clubs, pocket knives, old cigar boxes, hand made cleaning rod, and more.... some in pics below.

Wow...great info! I just bought a 1917 Brazilian Contract to shoot ICORE. Should show up to CA dealer Friday than 10 day purgatory. I need a holster. We have Blade-Techs for all our autos and one 627, but willing to try something else (Cust svc ??). I gather from the string that the 1917 is an N Frame...correct? Any recomendations on an ICORE suitable holster? Thanks in advance!!

Anyone Carry CCW

Does anyone carry a .45ACP revolver for CCW? This would be my preference for caliber, but don't know if I can pull it off. What is the preferred method/holster?

I've been considering the Night Guard. I think I could pull off the .44 Sp, but I think the .45 is a larger frame.

Any info would be great.

Thanks, Jim.

I used to have a 25 in .45 Colt . None of my friends shared my enthusiam for the round . I shoot a lot of .45 ACP in 1911 and have 3 friends with Dillons who take it as an insult if I don't shoot their rounds and ask only for my spent brass in return . I will get my next model 25 in .45 ACP . I swear some people would rather reload than shoot .

Maybe a 45 Colt would be a good round, a buddy just got a Ruger Vaquero in 45 Colt, got it because he saw the round and had to have a gun that would shoot it!

And they call us gun nuts ;o)

I second everything all of you have said.

I have a 625JM. It's my second 625. I'm still kicking myself for selling my 625-8 5" model. I've come to conclude that .45 ACP may be the ideal revolver round for all of the reasons many of you have stated. I have a friend who downloads 185 gr. 45 ACP LSWCs and they make a perfect target round with virtually no recoil.

One thing about my JM. I tried mightily to learn to like those Miculak grips but it just didn't work for me. Recoil would push the upper left hand corner of the grip smack into the base of my right (my shooting hand thumb) leaving me with an exquisitely painful bone bruise. My JM now sports good 'ol Hogue rubbers, with the Miculak grips sitting securely in my grip drawer.

A revolver can shoot faster and longer than a auto can, and drive tacks while doing it. But it is all up to the person backing it up, ask Jerry about it.

I enjoy my new 325 NightGuard in .45ACP. It gives a reliable backup to autopistols and it shares the same cartridge as my primary weapons. I don't care for the 9mm and only my backup guns are S&W snubbies in .38SPL. To me, .357 in a short barrel has no advantages. It takes some practice to reload a .45 ACP revolver but the plastic or metal full moon clips make it faster than a speedloader.

Model 22 Thunder Ranch. I do carry on occasion when the mood strikes me. I little big so I went back to the wood grips. Trying to find a good set of wood that fill in under the trigger guard, but are not as long as the hogues. One of the best purchases I ever made!
