Teachers do not, as a rule, carry weapons. However, EVERY school has an armed guard at the gate. To the children, it is natural that a security guard be armed, which is why I don’t understand the apparent sentiment in the US that having an armed guard around will make children uneasy.

In the American school environment, children are taught that guns are evil and they are punished for fighting even to defend themselves. Bringing even a dull butter knife to school or daring to draw a picture of a firearm calls for severe action against the child offender under zero tolerance policy. Its easy to see that children brainwashed under those conditions might feel uneasy about seeing an armed guard around. Such is America's new way of education. Truly sad.

I'll take a little poetic license and write what I "think" I know. Israelis still owe years of service individually to the military. 3yrs. for men, 2 yrs. for women. There are exemptions under certain conditions.
We could use a little of that in the U.S.. Some manditory service would have fixed a lot of problems with the youth of this country. Any physiological abnormalities could be observed and maybe even caught at initial testing prior to induction. Anybody that didn't want to serve could opt out but be required to serve in something like the CCC. Lengths of service in that org. would be longer term. I'd rather pay military and public service employees salaries than Welfare. A little guidance on the straight and narrow would go a long way in prevention of aberrations like we saw a week ago.

Thank you for posting this. This is only one article by one person. One would have to do some more research to determine what is going on in Israel. One nation with its own history & culture isn't like another.- - The work of John Lott points to the benefits of concealed carry as a means of reducing violent crime in this country. - - - In any case, we must always try to deal with the facts and put out the truth as we know it.
I'm afraid too many of us are following into a trap, however. These events are highly unlikely to occur. Youre more likely to be struck by lightening than be involved in such a mass shooting. What are we going to do next ? Hire zookeeper staff to also guard every school, just in case the lions & tigers escape ?
Don't be played for a sucker by media emotionalism.

Every school my son has attended has had a "Resource Officer"....maybe it is time to look at them being trained as a 1st responder with the focus being on intense weapons training/ active shooter scenarios. I think that would trump them handing out pamplets about condom use and/or anti-drug messages.

I think we can learn from how very small countrys do things. Israel not only is tiny, but is surrounded by countrys that are sworn to annilate them. They quickly find out what they have to do to survive.
I like to think like this: About 250 of us have survived a water landing off a deserted island. Somehow we had flew far off the flight path and there is no hope of being found. The laws we have been raised with and accept no longer apply. We have to do what really works to survive. There are several unGodly men that are prone to steal and take advantage of our females. (The right word will get my post pulled). Now do we put them in a petting zoo or eliminate them? They cant be trusted loose and it would take a number of men to guard them and those men are needed to help us plant, harvest and hunt to survive.
I belive you can darn sure look to israel to show us whats the sane way to survive. They dont have the luxery of money for studys or the time to argue with the counterpart to our ALCU if they actualy have one.
All what I wrote boils down to just plain common sense. That is discouraged in this country. We would rather protect the mid east than our kids here. We would rather throw away our money on green energy that doesnt work. We would rather pay welfare forever on people working the system than train a few sluggards how to be guards and be somewhat productive or cut them off the system if they refuse that work or some other type work.
We know that with the guns in circlelation its impossible to keep them out of a nut or criminals hands. As wayne lapire said, the only way to stop a bad man with a gun is to have a good man with a gun stop him. But then, we all knew that. The real deal here is we simply are outnumbered by idiots.
