Will a p38 mag work in a model 39?

I know you would have to make a mag catch cut in the right place instead of the heel, from what I read the mod 39 mag was copied from a p38 mag with the added cutout for mag release , just wondered if it would work

The P38 mag WILL work in an HK P9S w/o mods, but I am not sure about modifying it to work in an S&W 39.
