I picked up these two model 39 mags in a South Carolina pawn shop last week for $10 each. I soon noticed that they are marked "CURRIE ASG".

A little homework and my theory is that these were part of the police or military armory at Currie Barracks in Canada. It would make sense for such items to be marked to avoid pilfering (which seemed to have happened anyway).

Was the Model 39 ever issued to the Canadian Military, Mounties, or security guards?

Canadian Armed Forces never issued the S&W Model 39. Their automatics until recently were Hi-Powers. The RCMP used the DAO S&W Model 5943 or 5946. I don't remember which one specifically.

Now, Canada does have Provincial, Regional, and Municipal police forces. In the past, one of them could have issued the Model 39.

40 years ago a S&W LEO sales rep told me that he'd seen the chief of security at a Canadian embassy carrying a well worn model 39 no dash.
