Hello, I have been looking for a rear sight for my 627 model of 1989 and I found one that the seller says is from a five screw 27. Will this fit ? Thanks in advance for your help. -mike

Thanks for the reply. From all of the pics I've seen of the model 27 model of 1989's with intact sights, they have a flat front end. It appears from what I see on numrichs website all 27's are compatible, but I'm not sure if it being a five screw makes it a pre 27.... and if pre 27s are compatible with other 27s. Going crazy here, lol
Mine should have he checkered baxkstrap. The one for sale is checkered.

Smith changed the hole location for the front attachment screw, not sure when, but surely after 1956.

I measured my 627-0 from the rear blade to the center of the anchor screw as good as could, estimating the center of the screw. It measured about 2.282. I measured a pre model 27, serial 15912x the same way and it measured 2.153.

I don't know when they changed this specification, but my guess would be that you need to find a sight from later gun than a pre 27, say 27-2 or later to fit the 627

The 5 screw era rear site will not fit.
Is your 627 a "No dash" or ?
Round site leaf cut at front or old style like pictured above ?

If its a no dash a checkered rear site from a 27-2 , 27-3 should fit.

Yep, it is checkered and squared on the end....

I believe there was one on ebay recently?

did someone have a red-dot on your gun???

IMHO I would say no the rear sight from a five screw will not fit your 627 model of 1989.

Nice! Looks exactly like mine.... well.. except mine is missing the rear sight, lol. (And my combat grips are a bit different)

Yes. It has a B-square mount on it with a nice condition Ultra Dot. My grandfather put it on when he bought it and over the years the sight went missing. I want to restore it to original, but haven't had any luck finding a rear sight.
