Will a 1851 Navy fit in the same holster as a Single Action Army? Given barrel lengths are close?

The 1851 Navy Colt will usually fit into a holster formed for the SAA, but the reverse is usually not the case due to the top strap of the SAA and the ejector rod tube.

I'm thinking that the Army used some Civil War holsters for early SAA's. I know that about 1874 a new pattern was adopted and that these had two holes on the flap to adjust for them using either the Colt or the SW Schofield.

Were separate holsters issued during the war for Colt .36 and .44 guns and for Remingtons? Or did they take a one size fits all approach?
