Why does Smith and Wesson print that statement of operation on their 1911 pistols? Nobody else ruins Mr. Browning's weapon by printing that on the side.

I can't really speak for the factory but many of the third generation Smiths have a magazine disconnect. I think their thinking is to warn people that are used to the one (with disconnect) about the other (without).

Simply Lawyer lingo in today's liberal world to avoid liability. Ever look at a Ruger product ? Same reason I've been told S&W doesn't provide a parts list or diagram.

You ever hear the story about why Ruger went to the New Model Single Action design and had to roll-mark warnings on the side of the barrel?

Back in the early 1970's an Alaskan guide put a fully-loaded Ruger .44 Magnum single action on the dashboard of his jeep. The gun tumbled off during off-road travel, discharged, and struck him in the kneecap, causing loss of the leg. The guy sued Ruger, and won a $20 MILLION judgement, and part of the settlement required Ruger to mark their guns with warning statements. Lawyers. Imagine that!

"It's impossible to build a fool-proof device because fools are so ingenious."

My department orders our 5946s without a magazine disconnect. As a result there is a lawyer lable on the right side of the slide "Caution - Capable of firing with magazine removed".

It's not just the 1911s, it's all non magazine disconnect guns.

You can also add the Sigma to the list that has the "liberal lingo" on the side of the firearms..

The really sad part is that for every "Caution: Coffee is HOT" or "Do not stand on glass table" sign, there is the certain knowledge that some jerk won a lawsuit for that very thing.

Everything is "idiot-proofed" to the max today. Not only is this annoying, but it derails nature's "survival of the fittest" safety valve. All this cuddling is why we're now surrounded by morons. A few decades ago, half of these nitwits would have killed themselves by now. Instead, now we end up with election results like those from a week ago.

This is very likely the most intelligent thing I have read on social commentary on this forum since I joined!!!!

That is absolutely unbelievable because everyone knows you always rest the hammer on a empty chamber with a single action revolver to prevent just that from occuring.20 million for being stupid and violating safety mandates.Hope it was reduced or reversed on appeal due to a concept of "Contributory Negligence".But it shouldn't suprise us in the least because the Messiah wants to bail out all the fools who took out mortages they couldn't afford.Personal Responsibility?? The brothers shouldn't be evicted because of their stupidity either and I guess the Hell with that concept......God Bless....Mike
