There isn't much size difference between the S&W .380 EZ and the S&W 9mm EZ so I am wondering will the same kydex holster work for both of them?

I thought from what I have seen so far, there are enough variations in specs that a firm fitting holster for the 380 wont accept the new 9. I could be wrong of course but would say contacting the holster manu of choice to confirm may help.

The 9 has a longer and substantially wider slide. Holsters are form fitted to exact profiles of pistols to retain them. Even if you can jam them in does not qualify as fitting correctly or safely.

I have a 380EZ and use a Uncle Mike's model 36 IWB which is made for 2" S&W revolvers. Works Great for Pocket carry. I went to look at the 9mmEZ at my LGS last week and it perfectly in my holster. The two things I found about the 9 is that the slide is beefer and the 380 loaded is 23.5 Oz. The 9 loaded is 28.5 Oz. Just Too heavy to pocket carry in my opinion.

The 9mm has a slightly wider slide , a leather holster might have enough give/stretch to work but Kydex is ridged it's not going to be a good fit .
I saw a magazine article comparing the two and the slide is wider and the frame may even be slightly longer.

I have 'adjusted' several Hybrid Kydex/Leather holsters over the Years.

If a holster is truly Kydex (as opposed to Injection molded plastic),it can be adjusted with the application of Moderate heat from a Hair Dryer (and oven mitts).

Normally, the main areas of adjustment are the barrel (obviously), especially around the ejection port (which serves as one point of minor retention) and the trigger guard (a primary area of retention).

There are many YouTube videos showing the technique needed.

But then the smaller gun will be loose in the holster. He wants to use both.
