I have a 629-4 with laser etched markings. I'd like to have S&W put the actual real roll marks on it. Any chance they'd do that? I'd pay for it, of course.

I know. But its 4am here and I already spent a half hr on hold with S&W in the last 24hrs. Figured I'd ask just to see if anyone else had given it any thought.

Many of the guns sent in for rebluing/ polish are restamped. It may be an option without a refinish.

If you're planning to do it anytime soon....forget it if you want Smith to do it. I have a friend that has had a gun "in queue for an estimate" for weeks now. I didn't say waiting on the work itself...I said ESTIMATE. It took me three days of periodic on-hold waiting for a rep to order some parts. The rep was going to get those parts in the mail that day. "That day" was over three weeks ago now.

It's not a S&W only problem. Colt has a 2-year backlog of work and is not even taking orders for anything in the custom shop. I'd look at some of the refinishes that can roll whatever you want on there, which includes the roll-marks. I know one finisher that can roll anything you want, but it ain't cheap.

I TRIED to order grip screws yesterday. I was on hold 70 minutes waiting for a human to answer.
The first of May I sent for a "Letter." Still nothing. Just my opinion but if you are that backed up HIRE MORE PEOPLE.

In defense of the gentleman (yes, just one man) who researches and writes the history letters, who has other work commitments from the factory and also deserves a vacation now and then...I understand he does the letters as quickly as he can, but a 3-4 month backlog is what it is. The factory hiring more phone reps is another question, and I would gather they are easier to find than a new Historian.

There is only one historian, and my understanding, no plans to replace Roy when he finally retires. (He is well past retirement age). If you want a letter for some special S&W get it now or a few years from now you may not be able to .
