We are going to be vacationing in Williamsburg, Va. area the week of Sept. 7th and would appreciate any tips on local restaurants that are a must visit. We will be looking for fresh seafood in particular and will be reaching out about 200 miles from Williamsburg. each day. Thanks in advance and if you have any other can't miss info. I'll listen. We prefer back roads America exploring so any mention of the ballet will be ignored.:D

We were there many years ago and I believe the Williamsburg Inn had a seafood buffet one day a week. It was some of the best seafood I ever had.

We vacationed in the Williamsburg area last month. You won't have a problem finding seafood places in and around Williamsburg, there are a number of them. We had seafood at a little resturant about a block off the colonial square that was very good, can't remember the name. We also had a great seafood meal at a little place on the north end of Hampton Roads just across the tunnel.

Obviously, the whole area is filled with historic things and places to see. I liked the Jamestown settlement and we went over and toured the Yorktown battlefield and the little community of Yorktown. We watched the local Williamsburg "militia" drill on the green one afternoon, shooting muskits and firing the cannon. It was very inspiring to hear George Washington when he and Lafayette rode in encourage the "troops". My favorite part of the trip was actually on the way back when we stopped and toured Appomatox Courthouse National Park.

My wife and I have traveled alot in the good old US of A...

The highest place on our list of recommendations is Williamsburg. I've spent 7 vacations there and still have not seen all that I want to see. If I were ever to leave Maine, I'd move there in a heartbeat. Colonial Williamsburg is on of the more interesting spots on the planet. The Williamsburg foundation has done many thing right. There are so many other historical sites in the area that I know that you'll return...;)

I'm jealous that your going instead of me!...

Thanks giz, sounds great and we are really looking forward to the trip, but did you eat seafood during any of those seven trips?:D

If you want really good seafood and not go broke at the same time, I highly reccomend Bills sea food on Warrick BLVD. in Newport News maybe 25 miles away from williamsburg. My wife and I spent last week in Williamsburg at the Patriot Place on By-pass rd. on Rt 60 at the 1776. We also like Pierces Barbque jsut off air port Rd. I can talk to some of the guys I work with and ask them the best places to eat other then what I have mentioned. 3 of the guys on my shift here at the fire station live in Williamsburg or Jamescity County. Williamsburg is in Jamescity county. I work in Newport News. If you send me a PM I will give you my Ph. number and may be able to help you locate different placeses around the area.

I was stationed at Ft.Eustis and my favorite places were off the path. The nature in some places is astounding.I do wish I never left. that was 27 or so years ago. It makes me wonder how things are probably a little different there now. I guess what I'm saying is take your time and enjoy. Oh yea,The food was good everywhere.

Gizamo....

We are about 30 min. east of Williamsburg in New Kent County Va. Let me know when you leave Maine. You can move to our house and we will go to yours.

We honeymooned and vacationed in Bar Harbor and have been up to Millenockett also.

If you are ranging out on a 200 mile circle daily, I recommend the many Civil War battlefield parks in and around Fredricksburg, Va. Chancelersville; Battle of the Wilderness; Bullrun; and many others. Fredricksburg is an old town where George Washington's mother and sister lived and the Park Service maintains the beautiful homes. Lots of old pre-revolution homes and buildings, old churches with 1700s graveyards, etc. Seafood is good just about everywhere.

Try the "Whaler" on Rt.60 just east of the intersection of Hwy. 199, great seafood. Also, go to Yorktown, try "Nicks" which is under the bridge. Excellent food. Also, try "The Trellis" on Duke of Gloster Street at west end of historic area. Gourmet food, reasonable price.

If you get to Newport News check out the War Memorial Museum on Warwick Blvd near the James River Bridge. They have exhibits of uniforms, weapons, etc dating back to just about every war we have fought. And Bill's Seafood is as good as any of them and the prices are very reasonable, much cheaper than a lot of the places in Williamsburg.
