Winchester 572 for 357 Magnum?

I was at Cabalas today buying some Starline 357 mag brass and noticed that they had some Winchester 572 powder. Has anyone used it for 357 magnum? I went to Hodgdon's site to look at data for 572 only thing I found were loads for 38 special and +p for 38. I think +p was 5 grains max with 158 gr XTP bullet.I wanted to get some input from someone that has used this powder.

I have used Winchester 572 powder in 38 special, 40 S&W, 45acp. I worked up loads from Hodgdon's data center site. 572 is not listed if 357 magnum is chosen.

A few months ago when I first saw 572 for sale, I tried looking up where on the powder burn rate charts it fell and it wasn't listed anywhere. So I emailed Winchester and they answered back that it falls between Autocomp and 296. I know that's a big range difference, but that is what they replied. And looking at the 38 Special +P data, it looks to be a little faster burn rate than CFE pistol when going by charge weights. But I haven't run across any 357 Mag data for 572 yet either. You might try asking Winchester if they are working up any load data for 572 in 357 Mag and see what they reply.

It looks like 572 is too fast a powder for use in the .357 Magnum. I'm guessing Hodgdon will eventually publish data for light loads in the .357 but will want to develop load data for its target cartridges first.

per the link,572 is supposed to replace SR4756 and in the video the discussion occurs at 12:50 minutes into it.

I've been using(since the 70s'),currently using,and will be using(as I have a good supply of it) SR4756 for 9mm,38sp,357M,40S&W,10mm,41M,44sp,44M. I will be acquiring some 572 for testing in the magnums.

I've been using(since the 70s'),currently using,and will be using(as I have a good supply of it) SR4756 for 9mm,38sp,357M,40S&W,10mm,41M,44sp,44M. I will be acquiring some 572 for testing in the magnums.

I'm down to my last 2 pounds or so of SR 4756 and maybe that much of SR 7625. The 7625 is so nice in my 357 Mag I haven't tried the 4756 yet, saving it I guess. It's only 33 years old.

I'm replacing these two with Universal Clays.

Winchester 572 is not too fast for the 357 magnum . It will not yield full magnum potential . That what W296 is for . In comparing it to WSF , the load data seemed almost identical . WSF , IMO is like a slow burning unique . I use unique load data (when I can't find what I'm looking for ) and add a touch more powder . My fav 357 magnum load is 160 gr cast bullet ( the thompson bullet , 2 crimp grooves plain base w/o the gas check) on top of 7.5 grs of WSF . Very very accurate in all my 357's . I use a lot of WSF , from 38spl to 45 LC and all the magnums in between.

I like to shoot 158 gr LSWC 's at med velocity I use a lot of Accurate No. 5 at 7.7 grs. Looks like burn rate is somewhat close might be a good powder for what I like to shoot. I think I'll
try a starting load for 38 special +P listed on Hodgdon website which uses 5 grains of Win 572 for 158 gr XTP this should be a good start point for mild 357 mag load.
